"It was necessary. If I defended you in front of my father, he'd have tried to kill you then and there." Ominis pointed out.
Sebastian picked up a book from the table with a knowing smirk growing. "As I said earlier. But no, don't listen to his closest and oldest friend. What does Sebastian know?"
Tessa didn't budge. "What did you father want?"
He scratched his face, looking tired all of a sudden. "He wants me to transfer to Durmstrang."
Goodbyes
Shock was evident on the Twins' face-Even Sebastian who tried to appear nonchalant about everything, but his voice was filled with fury. "The School that practices dark arts and doesn't admit Muggles?"
Tessa casted him a side glance, but Ominis beat her to it, "I swear to Merlin, if you make one snarky quip about 'it being the perfect place for you'-I will feed you to the grindylows in the Black Lake."
She scowled, sinking into the couch. "Rude."
"When is he trying to make you go?" Anne asked. Her tone was pitiful and there were unshed tears in her eyes.
Ominis shook his head, "I said he wants me to transfer. I don't give two bollocks what he wants, I told him that I'd sooner have copious amounts of sex with every Muggle-born Witch in this school on the front steps for everyone to see and become the Ministry's activist for Muggle-rights than transfer to Durmstrang."
Tessa raised an eyebrow, "I don't remember agreeing to that."
Sebastian grimaced, "What did he say to that?"
"That if I have any improper relations with a mudblood, the Cruciatus Curse wouldn't be the only Unforgivable sent my way again."
"Again?" Tessa echoed, "When was an Unforgivable casted on you?"
The Sallow twins stayed silent. Even Ominis who at the very least would normally tell her to mind her own damn business was silent.
A prickling sensation filled her. This one she recognized like an old friend.
Loneliness.
Regardless of what she thought-maybe she wasn't as close to any of them as she'd hoped. The only reason Tessa knew about the Undercroft was because she followed Ominis in. None of them had actually invited her.
Tessa blinked the tears away, "I forgot I've got to meet Professor Ronen. Excuse me."
"It's almost curfew-" Anne began confused, but Tessa was already out of earshot. Shame immediately soaked into her bones. Hotheaded, self-pitying, worthless-why did she even bother trying to get close to people. It only left you broken. Her mother had taught her that much.
The Clock Tower Courtyard was unsurprisingly empty. No one wandered the halls this late anymore and no one would dare go outside into the night alone. Unless you were an emotionally distraught Witch who was questioning her life and the meaning of life. Honestly, seventeen-almost eighteen-was too young to be having an existential crisis.
She made it over to the Well of Four Beasts. Tessa remembered Poppy throwing a sickle into the well and making a wish. Apparently if you earned the trust of any of the four beasts; whether that be the Hippogriff, Griffin, Thestral, or Chimaera-your wish would come true. Poppy had told her of a friend she called Highwing and that her friend would help her wish come true. When she asked about it, Poppy winked and told her it was a secret.
