xv. in this together.

The next couple of days went by quickly. They had gotten into a routine of walking out into town to get some fresh air and they took it in turns to cook. Neither of them could make anything overly advanced but they made it work. 

Their time together was so pleasant that for a split second, they both forgot their situations and it did just seem like a summer holiday. Bucky was still having intense nightmares but was keeping it to himself. As much as he trusted Rory a lot, there was still a lot he had to keep to himself. The darkest parts of himself, the things he'd done. She was a saint in comparison, and the last thing she wanted was for her to ever think less of him. Bucky never wanted Aurora to see him the way he saw himself.

Meanwhile, in the few days they had spent in France, Rory had received text messages from Steve, Tony and Natasha, all asking where she was. As much as she loved all of them, this was a mission for just her now. So although it wasn't ideal, she had lied and said she was in Europe with her dad, dealing with the remainants of HYDRA. It was a lie, she knew that and she knew it was wrong but for her safety and Bucky's - she wanted to keep it quiet.

"Don't forget, it's your turn to cook tonight" Bucky said to Aurora as they both got ready to head out. The groceries that they had bought had almost ran out so it was time to go and replenish their supplies.

"How could I forget?" She teased as they began to walk to the car.

Before they could get in, they noticed the farm owner coming towards them. Neither of them were concerned, he was probably just coming to ask how they were doing or ask if they planned on staying longer, since they had been there a week already.

"Bonjour" The man said "I just wanted to come and see how you are both doing?" He said in a jolly tone.

Bucky and Rory both nodded "Good, thank you. The countryside is beautiful and we have been enjoying it very much" Aurora said with a smile.

"Good, very good. Well, just wanted to check on you. Enjoy your day" He said as they smiled and turned to leave. "One more thing I was meaning to ask" the man spoke.

Rory turned back to him "Yes?"

He smiled "Are you someone famous? I just.. I know it may sound silly but I am sure you are someone famous".

Rory felt her stomach drop, they had been so enjoying the peace and now this felt like it could be big enough that they needed to leave. They were meant to be going unnoticed, so her 'Avenger' presence was probably not helpful for that.

"She gets that a lot. If you ask me, she SHOULD be famous. She's stunning, am I right?" Bucky spoke up, noticing that Aurora wasn't rebutting with anything the way she normally did.

The man looked to him and then back to Aurora "I just.. I could swear I have seen you before" He said looking at Rory. "What was your name again?" he asked.

Rory looked at him, furrowing her brow "Katherine.. but I must just have one of those faces. Generic" She said with a small laugh "Anyway, thank you for checking in on us. See you later" She said, wanting desperately to get away from the conversation. Bucky smiled and the two of them walked to the car, trying to be as casual as possible.

They got into the car and Rory exhaled "We have to go. He knows who I am, if he finds out about you.. we just need to go" She said in somewhat of a panicked tone.

Bucky was surprisingly calm in the situation "He doesn't know anything, he thinks you look like something. That could mean anything, "he said, trying to keep her calm.

"Yeah, but what if-" She continued.

Bucky instinctively grabbed her hand "Hey, we're okay. Just breathe, we're okay" He said, holding her hand for a little too long before finally letting go so that she could drive them to the grocery store.
