Breaking The Rules

Grian's Perspectives-

The Next Day-

Grian and his friend, Jimmy, were flying around high in the sky.

"Woo! Don't you love doing this?" Jimmy asked, putting his hands behind his head as he faced the sky.

Grian nodded, still thinking about what had happened last night.

"Hey," Jimmy said, noticing his friend's worried expression, "You alright?"

Grian nodded and then shook his head.

"What's up?"

"I just..." Grian bit his lip.

Jimmy waited before saying,

"Come on, why don't we go down for the bakery and talk?"

Grian nodded and he and Jimmy flew down.

Their whole village lived in the deep forest where they all built giant tree houses.

Jimmy and Gian flew towards the bakery and smiled as they saw Audie, a girl who was around eight and had bright pink and white wings, at the counter.

"Hi Grian! Hi Tim!" Audie greeted and Jimmy groaned when she called him Tim.

"Not you to, Aud. I can't take all these people calling me Tim!"

Grian and Audie giggled.

"It never ends!" Grian shouted and Jimmy rolled his eyes.

"I really hate you sometimes." Jimmy mumbled and Grian patted his back.

"I love you to."

"Alright, boys, stop arguing."

Jimmy and Grian looked up and smiled.

"Julia!" They smiled, running over and hugging her.

"Gah! Hi guys! How've you been?" She asked, patting both Grian and Jimmy's heads.

"Good!" Jimmy said as they broke apart and Grian shrugged.

"That's great! Grian, if you ever need to talk, my door's always open." She then clapped her hands, "What do you two want to eat?"

"Mommmm," Audie said, "I was just about to ask them that!"

Julia laughed and patted her daughter's head.

"Alright, go ahead sweetie."

Audie smiled and cleared her throat.

"Grian, Tim," -Jimmy mumbled, acting as though he was upset- "What would you two like to eat today? We just finished making some pumpkin bread!"

"We'll just take some sourdough bread,
please." Grian said and Audie nodded, walking back into the kitchen.

"How's she doing?" Jimmy asked and Julia shrugged.

"Pretty good. Sometimes she just gives people free goods," Jimmy and Grian giggled, "But she's good."

Audie then walked out with a loaf of bread in her hands.

Since it was already in a bag, she handed it to Grian and Julia rang them up.

Grian paid for it and he and Jimmy left, flying over to Grian's house.

"Alright," Jimmy said, putting a slice of bread down in front of his friend, "What's going on?"

Grian took a bite of his food, thinking about how he could say this carefully.

Guess there's no easy way to say it, might as well spit it out.

"I got spotted."

Jimmy looked shocked and swallowed his bread before laughing nervously.

"Good one, Grian, but serious- "

Jimmy cut himself off as he saw that his friend wasn't laughing.

"I'm not joking, Tim." Grian said, "I did get spotted."

"By who?"

"How am I supposed to know? Just some random guy on the street."

"What happened?"

"I was flying around and decided to take a break. The world looks really pretty at night. Anyway, I was perched upon a sign and some guy said hello and we made eye contact, and I flew off."

"Did he get a picture of you?" Jimmy asked.

Grian shook his head, "He took out his phone after I left. I think he tried to, but I'm not sure."

Jimmy nodded, biting his lip.

"What're you gonna do?"

Grian shrugged, "Not sure yet, but if he didn't get a picture, we should be fine."

"Why don't you go back?"

"I feel like that'd be even more dangerous."

Jimmy shrugged and they continued eating.

Grian looked out the window and hummed, resting his head on his hand.

"I do want to go back to the town though. I love seeing it at night. And that neighborhood is very quiet."

"Grian, he might go out tonight."

"I'm sure he won't. I probably freaked him out."

"How'd you do that? You get scared at your own shadow."

Grian flushed red from embarrassment, "That was ONE time!"

So when Grian tells Jimmy 'I love you' he means it platonically ;)
