It was dark, the last remained rays of sunshine having died from the sky many hours previously. A few street light had flickered to life in the area, casting a dappled, pale glow of false light onto the old cemented sidewalks.
A gass station's, one that had yet to close down for the night, remained open to the few passengers who happened to be taking a late night walk.
Moths flickered against the streetlights as the door to the store opened and closed. Inside, a single, hooded man stood, browsing over the selection of items that the store carried.
Gloved hands brushed softly against the packaged food and other materials as he walked down the aisles.
The store owner glanced up from his computer screen, from where he sat at the front desk. He called out to the other man,
"Can I help you find anything?"The hooded man smiled softly, shaking his head.
"No, I think I'm okay. Thank you, though."
The owner of the store nodded, going back to his computer work.A few minutes later, the hooded customer went up to the front desk, a pack of plastic water bottles in hand and a loaf of bread.
The owner began to scan the items, the beeping noise of the machine filling the quiet and still air. After a few moments, the customer cleared his throat.
"You wouldn't happen to have seen another man pass by here, have you? He's very tall and muscular. Handsome. He has black eyes and dark brown hair."Silence filled the room yet again as the store owner continued to slowly scan the items. Eventually, he spoke, his tone flat.
"No. I haven't seen this person that you speak of. Mission person, is he?"A dark, bitter chuckle was audible under the hood of the customer, a void of any humor.
"You could say that."
The store owner glanced the customer out of the corner of his eye, wary and masking his confusion. He finished scanning the items, the two men standing awkwardly in an empty silence yet again.
"Would you like a bag with that?" Asked the store owner, raising an eyebrow questioningly. The hooded customer smiled slightly, gently shaking his head.
"No, that's okay. I can carry them." He said, drumming his gloved fingers against his thigh, humming an unknown song softly to himself."That'll be 12.50 then." Answered the store owner, punching the numbers into his computer. The hooded man dug around for a moment in his black Jean pocket, before sliding over a twenty dollar bill.
The store owner passed him the change and purchased items in return, nodding.
"Thank you for your purchase, come again."The hooded man smiled and held up his hand in some sort of still wave, and exited the store. The stood at the curb of the road, gazing up at the darkened, polluted sky of the city. A few stars had dared to make an appearance, and a warm summer breeze ran though the streets, blowing litter across the cracked and weed laced sidewalks.
The hooded man sighed softly at the sight of all the garbage and slowly lowered his black hood with his gloved hands. Ice blue eyes stared up at the night time sky, his soft pink lips twitching into a smile full of bliss.
The man ran a hand gently through his blue frosted hair, his expression thoughtful. A hand from behind him was placed on his cloaked shoulder, making him turn.
