Chapter 2 Just An Audition

The message popped up at exactly 6:37 that same Friday. A message from @beatlesmike05. It was probably the best notification Will had ever received and it read "Audition is at three sharp, don't be late, don't be early". It seemed very aggressive, but funny to Will.

He plopped himself onto his bed and held his phone above his head as he typed a response quickly.

"Okay!" it read. "Do I need to bring anything? :)"

Looking around his bedroom, he smiled calmly to himself. He could easily bring a microphone if Mike needed it, or even a spare guitar? Knowing Mike though,  he would probably have everything sorted out already. Well, he barely even knew Mike, but Will knew he liked him anyway. He didn't know what he meant by like, he was straight after all and just wanted to be friends. Did he just want to be friends? Right now, he couldn't possibly answer that question as he sat up on his bed and looked down at his jeans to see-

His phone began to vibrate in his hand and play his ringtone loudly. In a rush he answered it and held it against his ear.

"Don't bring anything tomorrow." Mike's voice went into Will's ear. "None of your friends or anything, just bring yourself."

"Can I bring my dog? I need to walk her at three." Will spoke into the phone, trying to hide the smile on his face from hearing Mike's voice.

"Walk your dog at a different time." Mike said, not caring about Will or his dog in the slightest.

"But I always walk her at three-" Will protested.

"Fine, bring your stupid dog!" Mike interrupted him, sighing loudly.

  "Thanks.." Will muttered a response.

Silence filled the phone call for a few seconds as Will tried to think of something else to say. How could he possibly keep the conversation going without being awkward? Will was a master of being awkward. Barely anybody knew that because he was meant to be a popular extrovert, but deep down he wasn't.. he was just Will. Some guy just trying to find his place in the world while trying to please as many people as possible, but he couldn't please anybody.. not even himself.

"Is anyone else going to be there for an audition?" Will finally asked something else.

  "No." Mike mumbled.

"So, I'm the only auditioner?" Will guessed, a bit shocked that he was the only person who got asked to be the lead singer of the band.

  "Sadly, yes." Mike replied, coldly.

"So, I'm most likely going to be the singer for your band?" Will laughed into the phone, teasing Mike slightly.

"I've got to go, bye-" Mike rushed to end the call.

"Bye!" Will said, smiling even more now.

It was now eight and Will had been on the phone for only five minutes with Mike, but it felt amazing. The conversation may of been short, but it was something. Something to distract him from his parents.

Most days after school, Will hung out with his friends just to get away from home. When he did eventually come home, it was straight up to his bedroom so he could avoid his parents. Sometimes he just skipped dinner and went to bed hungry. It was better than eating with his parents and arguing about school and Will's future. Will didn't know where his future would take him, but he hoped it would be music related.

Will's life was surrounded by music, it was probably the main source of happiness in his life. If he didn't have music, then he would not be here anymore. That's why he needed to get into Mike's band.. he had to show his talent to the world somehow without being seen as a popular boy who plays hurling and has girls following him all the time. Yes, he loved the attention, but he felt it got a bit too much sometimes.. especially when he's stressed.
