Dear Will,
I don't know what has happened to me, but recently whenever I see you I can't help but smile. Your face is the only face that will ever make me happy, so thank you for being you. You think I'm the bravest person in the world, but compared to you I'm a pussy. You're braver than anybody I have ever met. You told your whole family your sexuality and your dream to be a rockstar. Some people in that room supported you, but some didn't. I support you and I love you. I told your mother I love you while I was arguing with her, but she didn't even care. I didn't say it out of anger to prove her wrong. I said it because I fully meant it and I will mean it till the day I die and beyond. I hope you know a lot of people love you. They may not say it because they feel scared of the outcomes. I've never said it to you because I'm afraid it's too soon. Two months have brought us here. Two months have brought me to once hate you and now love you.
I'm sorry you'll never receive this letter. It will stay in the bottom of my drawer where hundreds of letters are kept for people I have once written to, but too afraid to confess how I felt for them. Out of all of them, you are the one I love the most. I wish you could know that, but I'm too afraid for the consequences that will come with me loving you. It may ruin your life and I'm not risking that. You've already felt too much pain in your life and I'm not going to add to that. I'm going to make sure you keep smiling. I'm going to try at least, I can promise you that.
I love you,
From somebody who is too scared to deliver this letter to you xx
It was nearly midnight when Mike finished writing the letter. Rolling it up neatly, he tied a ribbon around it and placed it in the bottom of his drawers. Looking at his bed, he sighed. Will wasn't there. Ever since Christmas day, Will had slept in a different room. Mike had asked him to, but he didn't tell him why. Will being Will, he just nodded and said it was fine. For Mike it wasn't fine. He wanted to sleep next to Will every night, but he was afraid to do so since he realized he had feelings for him. Protecting himself and Will, he decided it would be a lot safer if they slept separately. So, Will moved into the empty guest room that had blank white walls which bored him. Mike and him spent the days leading up to New Year's Eve decorating it with posters and drawings that Mike had drawn.
The band only got to check out the place they were going to have the New Year's gig only two days before the night. It was spectacular in Will's opinion. The stage was a good size, and there would be a lot of space for people to dance to their music and sing along to the covers. Will had only realized as he stepped into the place that it was a gay bar - Mike had "forgotten" to tell him that detail. It didn't really matter to him, but it was a bit scary for Will. He'd be surrounded by queer men for the first time in his life. It was exciting in a way, but terrifying as well.
The manager of the bar spoke to them about what he wanted the band to sing on the night. They'd be playing at half eleven till one in the morning, meaning they would have time for at least fifteen songs. Ten covers and five original songs. That suited the band perfectly because the band only had six original songs, but they didn't tell the manager that. Will and Mike shared a secret smile when they heard how many original songs they could perform. This was going to be great.
"Ye can have a bit of practice now if ye want," the manager told them, watching Will, who was sitting on the stage. "I'd like to see ye in action!"
Getting up, Will grabbed his microphone and smirked. The manager was still keeping a close eye on him which made him even more nervous than usual. Looking around him, he saw Mike approaching him with a frown on his face.
"He's been checking you out all day." Mike whispered to him, sounding annoyed for a reason Will didn't know why. "He's obviously into you for some reason."
