The day continued like the last, until the lunch hours began, that was when the scientist you spoke to yesterday came into the office. "Sir," they spoke up. "Are you ready for the new experiment? We have a test subject all set up." They Asked as Wally stood up, Handing you a clipboard. "Yes, I am. Y/n, do you know how to take notes?" He asked as he stared at you.
You shook your head. "No, this is the first time I ever did this.." you spoke as Wally walked with you and the scientist to one of the labs. "So first, put the date and what experiment it is on the top, the procedure breakdown, then what happens to the puppet.. if they die, put the date and time, Finally at the bottom, if it was a success or a failure, check the correct box." He said as the three of you reached the door.
You immediately wrote down the date. "So what experiment... Is this..?" You asked as the door opened to where the test would take place. The scientist turned to you "This experiment is to see if we can get More Spectra from more parts of the body, like the brain and stuff like that, compared to us getting as much as possible from the discovery of broken ribs producing more." They said. As you wrote down what they said, you overheard a question that they asked Wally.
"Do you think they're... Ready for this type of work? I mean, it's their second day." They asked as Wally took a glance at you, watching you finish writing. "If they are able to handle the constant noise of screams and watch the machine do its job without fainting, I think they are ready." He said coldly to them as he turned to the puppet that was strapped to the table. "Now, Shall we begin?" He asked with a slightly creepy smile.
"Y/n. Stand next to Wally. So you can write down the procedure." The scientist said as they grabbed the tools required. You walked over and stood next to Wally. As you were about to start writing, Wally put his hand on your shoulder, gripping it somewhat tightly. "One more thing, Y/n... Since this experiment will take a while, don't check any of the boxes. The scientists will do that after coming up with the conclusion of this experiment." He said as he let go of you.
The experiment had began, you wrote everything Wally and The scientist were doing. It was uncomfortable to watch, but you kept your composure during the whole thing. After it was halfway done, Wally turns to you. "We also need measurements of the body parts that we put on the table beside the scientist." He said as he handed you a tape measurer. You nodded and started doing as he asked.
You wrote down all the results then brought them back. Wally took the clipboard to look at what you wrote. The room was silent as he read. "Hm. Not bad for your first experiment." He said, handing you the clipboard. "We are almost done here, we just need to extract the spectra from each part." He said as he grabbed the tools needed. After an hour, it was done. Wally removed his gloves and tossed them out.
You were helping the scientist clean up, and he turned to look at you. "Y/n, once you're done here, leave the notes you wrote and come back to my office. Okay?" He asked as you scrubbed the table. "Okay, Wally." You replied as he left the room. You finished cleaning after 20 minutes and you thought to yourself while washing your hands 'Why the hell do we need this...Spectra?' You pondered, trying to think of a reason why. But you couldn't think of one.
You turned off the sink, dried your hands and walked back to Wally's office, remembering to knock before entering. He looked up at you with a grin and walked over to you. "You did well today with the experiment. Maybe next time, I'll let you be more hands on." He said, patting your back gently. You felt sick to your stomach as the image of that dissected puppet flashed in your mind. He took notice that you were a little too quiet, and soon he spoke.
"Are you alright? Do you have anything to ask me?" He asked. You looked up at his face that held a small frown upon it. "I'm okay, I'm just not used to praise... And.. May I ask why we need these puppet's Spectra? Like, what do we do with it?" You asked as you and he sat in the chairs near his desk. "We collect spectra to stop the neighborhood from being tainted." He stated.
"We need to keep things colorful, and In order to do that, we need spectra, which can only be found in puppets." He said as he sipped the last of his coffee. You took his mug assuming he wanted a refill. As you stood, he called out to you. "Y/n, walk around the factory and see if there are any files that have piled up during the experiment." He said. "Of course, Wally." You replied as you left the room.
Few hours passed, and the shift was over. Wally walked you home, just like the day before, except he was a little more talkative. You just assumed that he was trying to be nice. "So, y/n, are you feeling okay? Some people tend to go insane after seeing corpses and stuff like that, so I wanted to check in with you and see if you are alright." He said, as the two of you walked. "Well, I'm still adjusting to this... kind of job.." you spoke, not wanting to bring up the visions and the nightmares.
"I see, well..." He stopped as you walked up to your front door and opened it "I'll see you tomorrow" he said as he waved. "Yeah, see you tomorrow..." you replied. He looked at you, as you looked at the ground. "Y/n." He spoke, as you looked back at him. "Try to sleep well. Alright?" You nodded and went inside your home. You lied in your bed, looking at the ceiling before drifting off to sleep.
