DAYS off were rare, I knew that, that's why I always used them wisely. But I often wondered if it mattered or not since sometimes they can be taken away on the same day you're supposed to be enjoying them.
Today marks a perfect example.
I was in my backyard, sitting on the dark grey porcelain tile edge of my pool with my feet dipped in the cool water, humming softly to the low music playing from off my phone while sipping a glass of Lemonade.
After the final sip, I put the glass down beside me near my phone, and stood up, in a black one piece bathing suit. I took the black shades off my eyes, and the clip out of my hair to put on the lounger behind me.
"Black Velvet, if you please." I softly sang along to Alannah Myles' song before jumping into the water to swim to the other side of the pool.
Resurfacing with a light gasp, I ran a hand down my face as I turned around to press my shoulders against the edge of the pool. Letting out an exhale of content, I leaned my head back as I swung my legs back and forth in the water, listening to the remainder portion of the song.
After a couple minutes, it shuffled.
♫ Ha-ha! ♫
I grinned, bopping my head lightly as Duran Duran started playing. I wasn't ashamed to admit that I was a sucker for old school tunes.
♫ Darken the city, night is a wire. Steam in the subway, earth is afire. ♫
"Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do." I sang softly along.
"Woman, you want me." I furrowed my eyebrows deeply. "Give me a sign." My eyes shot opened, only for them to widened as I seen Barry standing there, singing. "And catch my breathing even closer behind."
"Barry!?" Barry smirked.
"Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do." I swiftly spun around to push myself up, and out of the pool. "In touch with the ground," I rushed over to my phone to pick it up. "I'm on the hunt, I'm after-" Barry's smirk widened as the music stopped, causing him to point his index finger at me. "you."
"What the hell are you doing here!?" Barry dropped his finger.
"Besides taking in the lovely view?" Barry scanned me up and down, letting out a whistle. "You're definitely making me hungry, Callahan." I stomped over to him, re-earning his gaze as I slapped him across the face, causing his head to snap off to the side. "Ow!" He re-met my gaze.
"I'm not going to ask you again!" Barry hissed as he rubbed his cheek. "Why the hell are- better yet, how the hell do you know where I live?"
"Because I brought him here." I darted my eyes over, seeing Malory walking over to us, causing me to furrow my eyebrows. "It's urgent."
"You can't just give away my address, Malory!"
"Oh don't have a hernia." Malory retorted as she stopped beside Barry, who dropped his hand off his cheek. "I don't see you giving Pam hell."
"And what's so urgent that you couldn't just call me?" Malory exhaled.
"Why don't we take this conversation inside." Malory suggested. "It'll be more private." Even though most of my neighbors were elders who kept to themselves, which is why I loved this neighborhood, I still agreed because I didn't want to disturb them with whatever this was about.
When we got inside my house, I grabbed a black towel to put around my body to keep Barry from gawking at me before I gave him an icepack for his stinging cheek as he sat at the counter in my kitchen. "Thanks."
