Dear diary,
Turns out- Lily and Severus? Complete dickhead pair.
I tried to refrain from using such language in a book I value as much as my life, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
You know? Lily told me that she was proud of me for brewing that sleeping drought the other day. She told me she loved how I was making progress in changing into a 'better person'. And now? She's back to blaming me for everyone's mistakes!
Albeit last time it was mostly my fault, but this one wasn't! And that's the only thing that should matter right now...
"Oh my Merlin, Penelope! Just admit that you did it!" Lily took advantage of the empty common room, deciding to scream her heart out at Penelope while everyone who could defend her was at lunch.
"Admit that I did what?" Penelope tried not to shout back, but she was dangerously toeing the line of anger because of Lily.
"I trusted you and you lied to me!" Lily kept shouting in her own world, not caring at all for what Penelope had to say. "I knew I should never have let you go with them. You told me you were just going to talk, but you can just never stick to your promises, can you?"
It's important to note the utter state of cluelessness that Penelope was in during the argument. Promises? She hadn't made one for weeks. Lying to Lily? Penelope has been nothing but truthful since the beginning of their friendship.
"Are you even going to say anything?" Lily's voice had lowered a lot since her last shout. Her voice was scratchy and lost its soft quality. Water pooled at the bottom of her eyes and Penelope didn't know what to do.
"What do I even say, Lils?"
"Anything!"
The common room door swung open and the self-proclaimed Marauders strolled in from the corridor.
"Hey, girls!" James bounded straight over to Lily, oblivious as always to his unwanted presence. "What cha' doin'?" He stood next to Lily, leaning back onto the headrest of the sofa with his arms crossed casually.
Remus walked over to Penelope and tilted his head to look in her eyes. She seemed angry, but the skillfully concealed crestfallen look in her eyes told him it wasn't a good reason to be angry.
"Hey," He stood next to her too, whispering his words quietly as James, Peter and Sirius pestered Lily together. "You okay?"
"I'm fine."
Her smile was weak, but it was outshined by Lily's outburst of anger on the other side of the room.
"Just leave me alone!" She took off quickly, heading up the stairs in a rush and disappearing before anyone could question her on why.
"What's her problem?" Peter moved around the sofa to sit on it, surprisingly lacking in his usual empathy.
"Probably girl problems. Am I right, Nelly?" James turned his head to the other girl, wincing slightly when his friends cursed under their breath.
"Oh, my Merlin-"
"You did not just say that, James." Penelope shook her head and squeezed Remus' hand at his side. "You are such an idiot, Potter." She let go of Remus' hand as she ran up after Lily, not knowing why she was mad, but knowing that she wanted to figure it out immediately.
She heard faint shouts from in the common room, a sign of the boys reprimanding James for his words. However, they were soon concealed through wood as Penelope closed the door of the dormitory behind her.
"I don't want to talk to you." Lily put on a jacket in front of the only mirror in the room, eyes flickering between herself and Penelope's reflection in the glass.
"I know you don't, but we still have to talk." Penelope moved to sit on her bed, not wanting to give up, but willing to if it was really what Lily wanted. And, evidently, it was.
Lily moved over to her own bed too, grabbing her bag of books and throwing the strap over her shoulder. "I'm going to hang out with Severus." She headed towards the door and paused before she went out. "Don't try to find me. I'll be back before curfew."
Then, she left.
