Sati stayed in her room for quite a few days. She was upset. She didn't talk to anyone and rarely ate properly. Sati couldn't contemplate how her father had behaved. The loving father she knew had turned so rude just by hearing his name. She spent her days looking out her window towards the snow covered mountains of Kailash. One day she was sitting by her usual spot when her mother called out.
"Sati! Come quickly. Lord Vishnu has come to meet you"
This gained Sati's attention. Vishnu was their family diety and her father was a big devotee of him and the God himself had come to meet her so she had to go outside. She went to the main hall where she saw Vishnu siting on a golden seat with her father sitting at his feet. Seeing Sati approaching, Vishnu stood up.
"There you are! I thought you'll just ignore me"
"Greetings my Lord. How can I ignore you?" Sati replied, joining her hands. Vishnu smiled.
"Oh drop the formality. You are like my sister. You don't have to so civil." Then he turned to address Daksha, "Daksha, can you leave us for a while. I need to talk to Sati about something"
Daksha, though unwilling, had to leave because it was the order of his Ishta Deva.
"Come here Sati" Vishnu called her towards him and she sat beside him. "Now I think you have an idea why I'm here."
"I can guess"
"Sati, I have seen Shiva pining since the beginning of the universe and only you can put him out of his misery."
"But he doesn't even want to see me. He doesn't want me Narayan." Sati huffed.
He put a hand on her shoulder and comforted her, "That's not true Sati. He is yearning for you as much as you. You are his Shakti after all."
"What?" Sati asked surprised.
"This what I'm here for Sati. You are the primordial goddess of this universe. Everything started from you and Shiva. You are Adi Parashakti. You are the other half of Shiva since the beginning of the universe. Your dance creates life and destroys it too. Shiva loves you more than anything but you have separated once and he's just sparing both of you the pain but it'll lead to nothing."
Sati's eyes teared up as she recalled her dream. Her dance with Shiva. It was her and not just a pigment of her imagination. Then she wiped her tears and asked,
"Tell me brother, how can I please him?"Vishnu smiled, "I will help you and though I know Shiva won't be a bit too happy with me but it's good for both of you. You should perform the Nanda Vrata."
"How can I perceive that?"
"It involves fasting from sunrise to next day morning sunrise. Purify yourself before sunrise and offer prayers to Shiva on the fasting day." Vishnu explained.
Sati stayed quite for a while and then nodded, "I will do everything that is needed. I will win him over. It's my pledge." Vishnu stood up.
"Well then sister, all the best and now allow me to leave".
"Thank you so much, Narayan. I couldn't have done it without you."
"It's not a big deal. Goodbye" Vishnu smiled and vanished.
