Broken Heart

There was a dead silence in the venue of the yagna. There were bodies laying around everywhere but the situation had calmed down. The Shiva ganas also stood still, staring at the massacre they had caused. The entire premise now resembled a cremetorium ground. Suddenly, the feeling of someone's arrival got everybody's attention. They turned to see that Shiva was standing in the middle. He was surrounded by Brahma, Vishnu and the other Gods. He was looking at the wreckage that was caused. Nandi went and quietly sat down near his feet along with the other Shiv ganas. Now Prasuti looked around to see Shiva. Her eyes were red and puffy due to the excessive crying. With whatever strength she had left in her, Prasuti ran and held Shiva's feet.

"Please Prabhu! Have mercy on this poor lady. Today I lost both my husband and my daughter. What am I supposed to live with now? I would have no choice but to kill myself as well. Please save him, my lord."

"Sakha, Daksha was the guilty one and he has gotten his due punishment but Prasuti had no fault in it. Revive Daksha, Mahadev. The world needs him. I request you" Vishnu said to Shiva.

"I cannot deny your request Sakha" Shiva said softly "Daksha's head contained his ego which had to be destroyed. He needs a new head."

Shiva then looked towards the newly sacrificed goat for the yagna. He took the head and placed on Daksha and with his powers, breathed life into him. After a while, Daksha stirred and got up. Prasuti cried in joy and ran to her husband. Daksha then got up and went to Shiva. He folded his hands and spoke gently.

"Hey Mahadev! I've been so wrong about you. I always saw you as my enemy when all you did was try to help me. And... and I didn't even listen to my daughter. I have become the reason for her death. It's a sin and guilt I can never recover from. Please accept my apology. I'm truly ashamed. "

Shiva didn't say anything and just nodded and then with a blink of his eye, revived everyone who was killed in the massacre.

It was then when Shiva's eyes went to the lifeless body of Sati. The pain he was trying to subdue for so long now broke free. The tears found a new life and ran down his cheeks. Usually, his Shakti would wipe them away and maybe steal a kiss but now he wouldn't be able to feel her touch and that very thought crushed him. His hands trembled and his trishul fell from his hand to the ground. His feet had a mind of their own and they slowly moved forward no matter how much the others tried to stop him. When he reached her, he couldn't stand anymore and crashed down on the ground.

"Sa...Sati..." with broken voice, he called out. No response. Then a scream of anguish escaped his throat.

"SATIIIIIII"

Shiva took Sati's body in his arms and cradled her.

"Why? Why did you have to do this? You had promised me that you would return to me but you didn't. You broke your words. Are you so heartless? You left me because you couldn't stand my insult but did you once think about what will happen to me? How will I live without you? This Shiva is nothing without you, Sati. I'm just as dead like you. How could you.... "

He grasped her body close to him and screamed again. His heavy sobs hit everyone. Shiva, who was the ultimate power. The beginning and ending of this universe at that moment was nothing more than a broken hearted man who unjustly lost his love. It pained everyone to see him in such a state. Shiva was holding on to Sati's body like his life depended on it.

"How can you leave me like this.... You were my everything. I believed in love because I had you. I waited for you to come to me but you left me again. You always do. You never thought about me. You might have left me Sati but I will never let you go. You will stay with me forever. "

Saying so, Shiva picked up Sati's remains gently in his arms and stood up. Ignoring everyone he walked out of the venue, mad with grief.

"What have I done Prasuti? How could I kill my Dakshayani? She was my life. My dearest daughter and I was so blinded by my ego and hatred that I caused her death. How will I live with myself, Prasuti? How?" Daksha cried in Prasuti's arms. She tried to comfort him but in vain as she herself was sobbing. Without any choice, Brahma had to intervene.

"I can feel your pain, my son but now you have to finish your yagna and make sure the very first offering is made to Shiva."

Daksha nodded and got up. He asked the rishis to begin with the ceremony. Everyone tried to turn their focus away from the recent incidents and to the yagna. But Vishnu couldn't. His mind went back to Shiva who had proceeded towards Kailash with Sati's corpse.
