The words that came out of Sati shocked everyone. Murmers started amongst the crowd. Prasuti cried out.

"No Sati! Please don't think of doing such a thing. Forget everything that happened. Your father never understood you. Why worry about someone who never respected you? Go back Sati. Go to Shiva. Don't destroy your happiness for this cruel man."

"No ma! I cannot. Every second of the feeling that my blood is connected to this wretched man is suffocating me. Even if I break my relations with him, I'm still physically connected to him. I cannot stand myself. I feel violated and impure and the only way to get rid of it is to leave this body. I love you ma! You are the best mother I could have got and I am so sorry that I have to leave you " Sati replied, tears breaming in her eyes.

"No Sati!!" Prasuti kept crying.

"Don't take this step, Sati. Forget about father, you know who this decision of yours is going to hurt the most? Shiva. That Shiva who loves you so dearly. You are his life. Think about what will happen to him. How much it will devastate him?" Rohini tried to reason with Sati and she was right.

All this while, Shiva was in Kailash and in his meditation had witnessed everything that went down at Daksha's place. He was shaking. He couldn't control his tears. He very well knew that this was supposed to happen. He was getting ready for the inevitable but that didn't mean it didn't affect him. The very thought of losing his Shakti again was killing him from inside. And Sati knew it too.

"I know didi. I know if my decision is going to affect someone the most, it is my Mahadev but didi, it is for him that I have taken this decision. The world should know the consequences of insulting Shiva through my father. I have no other option. This is the only way I can uphold the truth" Sati exclaimed and then joined her hands and closed her eyes.

"Mahadev, I'm sorry I have to leave you like this. This is not what I wanted. I love you and I wanted to spend my entire life with you but my time was limited. I regret not listening to you. Please forgive me for that. But I promise you that even if we could not be together in this birth, I will come back again. And next time, I will take birth to such parents who can respect me. Respect my choices. We will meet again, my love. But for now, I have to go. Agni Dev! I request you to accept me and burn this body of mine."

Sati asked the Fire God and waited.... but nothing happened. She opened her eyes and questioned Agni.

"Agni Dev! What happened?"

"I'm so sorry Mata. I cannot burn you with my power. You are Adi Shakti herself. My powers cannot affect you. Please forgive me!" Agni said with his head down. Sati stayed quite for a while. Then she spoke.

"You are right Agni Dev. I am Shakti. Alright, if your fire cannot burn me then I summon my inner power and command it to burn me through my yogic fire."

Sati closed her eyes and as soon as she spoke, her yogic powers travelled through her spine and then she bursted into flames. The entire sabha cried out. The Gods got up from their seats. Lakshmi and Saraswati were stunned. Brahma lamented his granddaughter and Vishnu closed his eyes as tears ran down his face. He too knew that this was going to happen but still the pain of loosing his sister was intense and most importantly, he knew how terribly this was going to affect Shiva.

Prasuti was crying as Rohini and the other sisters tried to hold on to her. Daksha stared at the burning figure of his daughter blankly. He too hadn't realized that things would turn out like this. Suddenly the surrounding started to glow and then from Sati's body appeared Goddess Adi Parashakti. The three eyed Goddess looked fiercely at Daksha.

"Daksha! You fool! You had forgotten about your promise to me when you wanted me as your daughter. I had warned you that the moment you would disrespect me, I would leave you but you did it anyways. Did you not only insult me but you also insulted Sadashiva who is my other half. Shiva and Shakti aren't different from each other but you failed to understand this. So now you will face the consequences."

Saying so, Adi Shakti disappeared. The moment she left, Sati's body stopped burning and she fell limp on the ground. The entire environment thundered as a sign of the upcoming disaster.

Shiva felt half of his soul leave his body as Sati died. His eyes flung open. He stood up. The moment he was dreading had finally arrived but he still couldn't accept the fact that his Shakti, his Sati was gone. His legs gave away and he kneeled down to the ground. Then a heart - wrenching scream escaped his throat.

"SATI !!!!!! "
