Sati had fallen asleep on her bed. She had cried all day until she had no tears left to shed. The night had fallen when Rohini approached her. She opened the door secretly and went to wake her up. She nudged her.
"Sati. Sati wake up."
Sati stired and woke up. She saw Rohini sitting in front of her with a plate of food.
"Come on Sati. Have something"
"No didi. I'm not hungry" Sati said moving away the plate of food. Rohini sighed and careesed her head.
"I know Sati how you are feeling but why are you torturing yourself like this?"
Sati sniffed, "Didi, I cannot....did I do anything wrong? Why is everyone against me?"
"I'm not against you Sati. I'm actually here to help you. I can understand your situation. I too have faced the same thing. Father knew that Chandra Dev and I loved each other but still he married me and our other 26 sisters with him.
Now I have to share my love for him with my sisters but Sati I don't want the same thing to happen to you. I'll help you escape. "Sati's eyes glimmered,"Really didi? You will help me? "
"Of course, Sati. I will secretly lead you to the back door. You need to leave Sati. There is nothing for you here. "
Sati jumped and hugged her, " Thank you so much, Didi."
"But you need to eat something first"
Rohini guided Sati outside the palace where her horse stood. She placed a hand on Sati's shoulder.
"Go Sati. Your destiny awaits you."
"Thank you so much Didi. I'll never forget this."
They hugged each other and Sati mounted on her horse and left for Kailash.
After reaching the mountains, she halted her horse there to wait and she herself started to climb. She had never been to the mountains before and being raised as a princess, Sati found it hard to climb through the snowy rocks. It was a tedious task but she held on to her courage. She reaches a point where she cannot climb anymore. She stopped and joined her hands and calls to Shiva.
"Oh Shiva! I have loved you since the moment I've seen you. I've left everything for you. Please my lord! I am your Shakti and we are not different. I have no existence without you. If you do not accept me, I've nowhere to go. I would rather be dead than live without you. "
She broke down and was crying when a hand touched her shoulder.
"Sati"
She recognized that voice and turned around to see Shiva standing in front of her. She stared at him with teary eyes and kneeled down.
"I knew you would come. I knew you cannot ignore me. Everyone knows about your kindness and your considerate nature then why aren't you showing the same kindness to me? Why are you keeping me away?" Sati cried.
Shiva brought her up by her shoulder and smiled. A smile filled with love and adoration. He wiped her tears.
"Sati, your place isn't near my feet but in my heart."
Sati was surprised. She couldn't believe what she heard.
"Does that mean....."
Shiva nodded, "Yes Sati. From this very moment I accept you. You were right. You are my Shakti and just like you are incomplete without me, I too am nothing without you. You have no idea how long I have waited for you."
They both smiled at each other and then Sati embraced him. Shiva too held her tightly. They held on to each other for a long time and then parted.
"Sati you should go back now "
Sati was surprised, "Why Shiva?"
"Sati love isn't something that needs to be hidden. I have accepted you and whenever you think is the time, call upon me and I would come to you. I promise."
Sati nodded. Shiva careesed her cheek and kissed her forehead. Then he escorted her to the foothills. She took her horse and went back but this time, with hope in her eyes.
As she reached her palace, Sati saw her father and her family standing outside the palace with worried looks. She went near them and mounted from her horse. Daksha angrily walked towards her.
"Where were you?"
Sati stayed silent.
"You went to that aghori again, didn't you?" Daksha growled.
Sati was still quite and then gave a shocking reply.
"I'm ready for the swyamvar. Arrange for it."
Softly saying so, she went to her room. Everyone was surprised but Daksha was glad.
That evening, Sati was in her room getting ready when Rohini entered.
"Sati can I talk to you alone?"
Sati nodded and dismissed her lady in waitings.
"Sati! What happened? Why did you return? And you agreed for the swyamvar?" Rohini asked, baffled.
Sati smiled a little but didn't turn away from the mirror.
"Didi I succeeded. He has agreed to marry me."
Rohini smiled and hugged Sati.
"Oh Narayan! Are you serious? I'm so happy for you Sati." Rohini said excitedly while combing her hair.
"I know. It feels like a dream" Sati also squealed.
"But Sati why did you agree to the swyamvar?"
"Didi I know what I'm doing. Just wait."
"Sati why do I feel like you are going to do something dangerous?"
Sati didn't answer but just smiled.
