A Serious Problem

Shiva had been walking mindlessly, holding Sati's body. He wanted to glance at her but he was scared to face her. Those doe eyes that used to stare at him so lovingly won't look at him anymore. His heart was crying out but he didn't make a sound. He soon reached the foothills of Kailash. That same place where he and Sati had first met. The first time she had bumped into him and he had held her. That very moment he knew that his Shakti had come back to him. And now he was there again but this time, he was holding her lifeless body. All the memories came crashing down onto him and he fell on the icy ground. He tightly held her body closed to his heart and let out a weep.

"Sati, you remember? This is where we first met. This is where I finally got back my Shakti but look how fate has taken a turn. We are here again but you have left me. Why? Why Sati? Was this really necessary? I know I failed you. I could have prevented what happened. I should have come with you but I was so bound by my responsibility that I..... Sati! Come to me. Please. Please..... "

Whispering softly, he again picked up her body and started moving. He left Kailash and walked on and on and on. He travelled through the desserts, the mountains and finally the space.

Vishnu was looking at the situation from Vaikunth.

"Narayan"

Lakshmi's voice made him turn around.

"What happened? Why are there tears in your eyes?"

"Shree, I cannot see Shiva like this. I wish I could take away his pain but I'm so helpless that I cannot do anything. Fate is very cruel, my love. It brings us together and rips us apart. We too have to go through it like them."

Vishnu sighed. Suddenly all the gods along with Brahma appeared.

"Save us Lord! Save us!" Agni cried out.

"What happened, Agni dev?" Lakshmi questioned.

"Mata" said Indra, "Mahadev has gone deranged with grief. He is travelling throughout the universe. His heavy steps and state of mind is causing destruction everywhere. Narayan! Please help us"

"Narayan, the only way Mahadev can be stopped is to separate Sati's body from him and only you can do that" Brahma pleaded. Vishnu looked at them and nodded.

"I know, Brahma Dev. The only way to separate Sati from him is that I have to cut Sati's body with Sudarshan. But..."

"But what Prabhu?" Indra asked.

"I have to talk to her first. I will be back"

Saying so, Vishnu left. He went to a secluded area and called to Shakti.

"Hey Shakti. Devi Mahamaya. If you are listening then please, I need an audience with you. I know you are upset but this is important."

Soon, a bright glow covered the surrounding and Goddess Mahamaya appeared.

"Narayan, why did you call me?"

Vishnu walked towards her and placed his hand on her shoulder.

"I know sister how you might be feeling. I'm so sorry things had to go this way. None of us had control of anything."

The Goddess wiped a tear from her face.

"Brother, this was our destiny. It was bound to happen. You couldn't have done anything. But I cannot see my Mahadev like this. It's my request to you, please free him from this state. Do whatever you need to do."

Vishnu nodded and Mahamaya disappeared. He again went back to the gods. He then called upon his Sudarshan. The shiny round disk adorned with sharp spikes, materialized on his index finger. His Sudarshan Chakra. Vishnu let out a deep sigh and released his Chakra.

Shiva was walking around the wide space and was slowly drifting towards nothingness when suddenly the Sudarshan came and hit Sati's body and in no time, the powerful weapon cut her body into pieces and they fell on the earth's surface. Her body was divided into 51 pieces which fell on different places. Shiva was stunned for a moment. Just a while ago, he was holding Sati's body and now suddenly she was gone. Whatever was left of her was taken from him as well. Then he went berserk. He started running throughout the cosmos calling out for Sati.

"Sati! Where are you? Where did you go? You cannot leave me once again. That was all I had of you."

He had to come to a halt when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned around to find his best friend, the protector of the universe, Vishnu standing in front of him.

"Sakha, where did my Sati go? She was right here with me" Shiva asked, his voice breaking. Vishnu held both of his shoulders.

"Sakha, listen to me. It was me who ordered Sudarshan to take away Sati's body from you. It was necessary to calm you down."

Shiva backed away.

"It was you. How could you?"

"It was the only way to bring you back to your senses. You had forgone your duties which was affecting the world. I could not have let that happen. Sakha, this is what she wanted as well. She requested me to calm you down" Vishnu said, trying to comfort his friend.

"Of course she did. All she does is go away from me, leaving me alone" Shiva said, his words hurting to come out.

"Sakha, I know you are in pain but you do have an important duty to fulfil"

"What Narayan?"

"Mahesh, Sati's body has been cut into 51 pieces and had fallen all over Aryavarta. You have to go establish them as Shaktipeethas. Only then can Shakti take form again. You have to do this for her" Vishnu explained.

Shiva stayed silent for a while and then nodded.

"Alright. I will fulfill my responsibility. Thank you, Sakha."

Vishnu smiled and they embraced each other. After Vishnu left, Shiva went to earth in search of Sati's body parts.
