Chapter Fourteen Just a Typical Day
This chapter (as for the rest of the book) will be back in Devon's POV. Please let me know what you think.
Three days after Austin is ring shopping. Also, please note that I'm just throwing whatever bands I'd like into this Warped Tour.
"Come on, they're gonna win if you stay there Dev," Austin shouts to me, peeking his head around the corner of the bus.
"They're going to win if you keep shouting like that," I say back, my voice barely breaking a whisper.
Austin rolled his eyes at me, before turning back around and running from our bus to the nearest bus. I made sure my water gun was loaded before following him.
They had an early morning set, and so we decided to have some fun and go to Walmart, where we found a multitude of water guns on clearance. Austin decided we'd buy some and get everyone who wanted involved to have a war. It was two teams; the first team was me, Austin, Alan, Jordan, Tino and Phil, while the second team was Aaron, Alex and Jack (from All Time Low), Mike (from Pierce the Veil), and Jenna (from Tonight Alive).
Only Austin and I were left from our team, and we were left facing Jenna, Alex, and Jack. We all had one life at the start, and once you got shot, you were out. Austin was worried that we wouldn't make it.
I got on the ground and slid under on of the buses. I knew that everyone playing had insisted on taking off their shoes, so if I could just shoot the bare feet, I would be fine.
I laid under there for a few minutes before I finally saw someone, "aw shit," Jenna's Australian voice called out, before heading to the losers circle.
I had heard Jack complain about getting out which meant it was just me and Austin verses Alex. I slowly made my way out from under the bus, watching for either Austin or Alex. If I found Austin, he and I could setup something to find Alex, and if I found Alex I'd just hope to pull the trigger faster.
I came around a corner and saw Alex, his back facing me. I smiled to myself as I thought of something to do, "Alex, truce," I called, my voice barely loud enough for him to hear. He turned towards me and smirked as he walked towards me. "It's just you versus me and Austin, but if you and I call truce, we'll have to work together to bring him down. I know how Austin thinks, and you have a great mind for coming up with plans, what do you say?"
"You go lay and the ground and hold your head like you're hurt, I'll get Austin," Alex says as he backs away from me, and starts hiding by a bus.
I walk to a spot where I'm visible from all four directions and I lay on the ground in the fetal position and wait to see Austin, and once I do, I start to moan like I'm in pain.
"What's wrong, Dev?" he runs over, asking as he pulls me into his lap and starts to baby me. I watch over his shoulder as Alex runs up.
"Gotcha!" he says, dousing Austin and I. Austin glares at Alex, opening his mouth to say something before I get up and high-five Alex.
"You fuckers," Austin says, laughing once he realizes what happened.
~~~
It was nine o'clock and I was sat in Austin's lap next to the camp fire. There were countless people here, at least one person from each band or tech crew. It was nice. We had two days off after tonight so the bands decided a camp fire in one of the fields would be a fun thing to do. I didn't know how many couples there were on Warped this year, it was nice to know I wasn't the only one doing this though.
"Hey, I'll be right back," Austin starts, standing up and setting me back in the chair. "I'm gonna go talk to Tino." I nodded and watched Austin walk around the fire to where Tino was standing.
I stand up, knowing that nobody cares enough to take mine and Austin's chair. I walk to where the coolers are, digging in one until I find a beer, opening it and cringing slightly at the taste. I hadn't drank all tour, I've been more focused on staying hydrated while running around and watching bands perform.
I turned around, smiling at the scene in front of me. I could see countless people all around, but I was focused on Austin and Tino. I loved knowing that my best friend, and my boyfriend were close. That was one downside with Stephan, Stephan couldn't stand Tino. He never wanted me to go hang out with Tino, but Austin doesn't care if it's Tino.
I walked over to them, Austin's arm immediately wrapping around my shoulders, pulling me close to him.
"Let's go talk, Dev," Austin says, as Tino says goodbye and walks towards another group.
I just nodded and let Austin lead me away from the fire, the warmth disappearing for the colder night air. I leaned my body against Austin's as we walked towards the bus. Only the driver and Jordan were on the bus, so we probably would have the back lounge to ourselves.
Austin lead my up the stairs, saying hi the Jordan as we walked to the lounge. Austin shutting the door behind him. He sat on the couch, pulling me onto his lap, I rested my head on his shoulder, waiting for him to tell me what he wanted to talk about.
"Tell me what you see for your future Devon?" Austin asks, his voice hesitant.
"Well," I start, thinking, not knowing what he means, "I see a house, a husband, children, a dog or two," I trail off, not knowing what I want for sure. I knew what I was looking for before I sated Stephan, but now I don't know. I hadn't thought about it since beginning with Austin.
He gave me a reassuring smile, rubbing my knee, "It's okay to not know. Honestly, I don't even know for sure. I'm living in the now, only thinking about the band. It's not fair to you, though."
"Aus, you can't blame yourself. I honestly haven't put much thought into it because of Stephan. I had plans with him, but I haven't thought about it since."
"I've only thought about it a little bit. Enough to decided that I want to marry you, when you're ready. I want us to have kids, I want us to build our family, and make our house perfect."
"I'm ready when you are, Aus."
