Beginnings of a new dawn

After one of Giyu's monthly visits to his master, Urokodaki's estate, to once again find worth and meaning in his life. Giyu decided to change things up a little after his visit, after all, Urokodaki always told him to carve new paths in his life whenever he thought about others not even caring if he were to just, die tomorrow.

While Giyu wasn't happy about change he thought that just taking a different path home or even just stopping by a nearby town wouldn't be too bad after all it's not like it would be a common occurrence, hell there wouldn't even be as much as a reminder of this night. Not even in his journal would this be added. But on the contrary, this one detour would change the rest of Tomioka Giyu's life for the better or the worse, maybe he would finally like change after tonight.

Two hours later at a nearby town

Upon arriving he could only look at his surroundings with sorrow and disgust as he had just entered a town being slaughtered by a demon. Where are the slayers shouldn't their Kasugai crow have alerted any nearby slayers of the situation? Hell where are the other Hashira we're always sent out to deal with occasions like this? Giyu thought. That was all Giyu could do, think he never brought his blade on visits to Urokodaki in fact his own Kasugai crown made sure to remember not to interrupt Giyu on this day, and yet when he was needed the most all he could do was look in horror, and think to himself.

He wanted to move, to leave it's not like anyone but he would know what he did. But his body wanted to help in some way, even though there was no actual way to, it's not like he could snap the demon's neck the fucker would still be alive and he would be eaten.

His mental dilemma was coming to its climax as he turned to walk until he heard the cries of a young girl and her parents telling her to run to survive and the blood-chilling crunch of someone's throat being torn in half by the jaw of a demon. Giyu didn't know why but he decided that he would save the girl. He didn't care if he would die as long as the girl was safe for even just a day more he would do anything to make that happen.

In that moment he realized why no Demon Slayer was taking care of the situation. A squad of 12 young slayers no older than 15 dead. The poor bastards didn't even get the chance to fight back. Giyu picked one of the swords up and ran faster than he ever had in his life, he could see the girl on her knees crying at her parent's death while the demon was making its way over to her.

"I always love it when my prey shows me how much I ripped away from them." the demon told the girl as he walked slowly towards her bearing its fangs at her. And then it started to lunge at her.

Giyu decapitated the demon just before the girl got hurt. "Little girl, are you hurt?" Giyu asked trying to keep the girl's focus on him and not the surroundings. "N-no" she said with a weak tone in her voice. "Do you have any other family or guardians that I could take you to?" Giyu asked and she responded by shaking her head "My grandma died a year ago and my only other remaining family is here" she said pointing to the corpses of her parents.

Giyu thought over his options he could take her to Urokodaki but the man wouldn't go two days before sending her through Hell and back. He thought about taking the girl to a different Hashira but even if he made it to one of their estates he knew that they wouldn't even give him a second of their time after all if you somehow managed to get Rengoku to dislike you then everybody else hated you. The option of taking the girl to some stranger was not an option he would rather be Sanemi's lapdog for a year than give her off to a stranger. He finally came to a conclusion when she tugged on his half-and-half haori.

"Hey little girl, if it's okay with you then I'll take care of you" Giyu said. "Do yo-you mean... you'll be my new Oto-san?" the girl questioned her eyes lighting up with shattered hope. "Yes I'll be your new Oto-san, but first I need to know your name" Giyu said smiling for the first time before Sabito had died. "I-it's Kanzaki Aoi" Aoi said with a bright smile. "If you're going to be my Musume then it should be Tomioka Aoi?" Giyu questioned as he put Aoi on his back and went back home.

While faking his death so he could spend as much time as he could with Aoi was easy, if anyone from the Demon Slayer Corps were to ask her for her name they would know that he was still alive. Though explaining his situation would be impossible with Tengen around. Who cares he will think about the consequences later.
