22 : what does it mean to be truly in love?

"I said don't talk to her like that," pagtanggol ni Rien sa 'kin, mababa at nagbabanta ang boses.

"Wedding rings are no enough proof of yer declaration, laddie," his father finally spoke. His voice thundered within the room. It made everyone silent in their seats.

"I knew you would say that."

As soon as she read the paper, her eyes widened. Her legs probably lost its strength that she weakly sat down on her chair again.

"This can't be real!" she exclaimed.

Mr. Alastair scanned the Certificate of Marriage in his hand quietly with furrowed eyebrows. Later on, his face transitioned into a relaxed expression and a corner of his lips raised.

"Oh, thank God, it's fake!" she said in relief and glared at Rien and me.

"It's pure real and legit," he announced, cutting off the little celebration of his wife.

"What? Are you serious?" she incredulously exclaimed.

Rien had probably expected this conversation's flow which was probably why he prepared the isolated room. And I already expected this bloody dinner he talked about. Will it be my blood though?

"But that can't be! It was like just yesterday that you were bawling and would die over that ex-girlfriend of yours, who was taken away by your greatest rival! And now, you sputter some bullshit and say that you're married?"

Ex-girlfriend? Greatest rival?

She would say even the hurtful words to his son.

His mom raised her eyebrows at me. 'Yan, as if I wasn't a person.

Somehow, her sentence also generated a question in my mind. Right. Why me? Why did Rien choose me to be with him in this plan?

"Who mentioned about lov, Darling?" Mr. Alastair butted in before his green eyes pierced at Rien.

"Then, why get married if they aren't in love?" pahabol na tanong ng kaniyang ina.

"Isn't this yer escape way of removing our grip from ye, laddie?" tanong ng kaniyang ama sa mababa at kalmadong boses, pero bakas pa rin dito ang kaseryosohan.

"Is that really what this is about, Adrien? You want to rebel from us like your brother did? If that's the case, I demand you get a divorce this instant!" his mom still insisted. The mention of the word divorce alarmed my system.

Will they really break us up? I panicked. I knew they had the power to.

No... Maybe I just didn't really want to return back to our home and miserably be with Natania again.

Would this be the time where rich people's parents would hand me some amount of money so I'd break up with their son and leave without trace like what I saw in the movies?
