Enid had been hoping to get some alone time, to think through her mixed feelings and try to scrub the kinda kiss from her mind. All for the sake of maintaining her friendship with Wednesday. It looked like that would have to wait.

Wednesday laid down next to Enid and looked up at the moon. The light of it made her pale skin even paler, highlighting the lovely contours of her face and the darkness of her hair and eyes. Enid found herself staring at her, transfixed.

"I'm...I'm doing fine," Enid said, realizing Wednesday had asked her a question.

"You seem upset."

Enid groaned internally. Why was now the time for Wednesday to be astute? "I'm fine, really."

"I'm making sure I didn't do anything wrong. You stormed off when we got back home." Wednesday's voice was soft.

"I'm not mad at you." If anything Enid was mad at herself for having such feelings for Wednesday when she knew she shouldn't. When she knew this was only fake dating.

"Was it your brothers? Should I have tried harder to keep them out of the date?"

"No...it's fine." Enid trailed off quietly.

"Something is still bothering you. Why won't you tell me?" Wednesday looked over at Enid. Enid stared straight at the sky. Did she dare to say anything? Did she dare to tell the truth? But like a coward, she retreated, tail between her legs, and deflected.

"You're really convincing with this whole acting romantic thing," Enid said, a touch ruefully. Because when they went back to how they had once been, Enid knew she would ache for the casual care behind each touch that breathed life into her and make her heart gallop.

"My father and mother are disgusting sappy," Wednesday said, thankfully taking the bait to switch topics. "I've seen enough."

"Do you...do you ever want to be like that with anyone?" Enid asked and Wednesday snorted.

"That sort of public display of affection is not something I enjoy."

Enid felt disappointed at that. "You're so good at it. It comes naturally to you." She paused before daring to add in a tiny voice, "I enjoy it."

Wednesday had the audacity to smirk. "I know. Your flush is so lovely."

Enid huffed, shoving Wednesday by the shoulder. "You are so not fair. I haven't even flustered you."

"Nothing flusters me."

"That has to be a lie. You're still human, even if you're a weird one." Enid had been sure that the surprise kiss had flustered Wednesday, if only a bit.

"You are incorrect."

In a sudden attempt to fluster Wednesday, Enid decided to hover over her, holding her body lightly above hers. Enid could feel the warmth radiating from Wednesday below her. "How about now?" Enid playfully asked.

"Not even a little bit," Wednesday stated.

Enid needed to pay Wednesday back a little bit for all the times Enid had turned red in the face. "How about now?" she asked, pressing her lips to Wednesday's forehead.

"Nothing," Wednesday replied, though her voice sounded purposefully even.

Enid then dropped a kiss onto Wednesday's nose. "Now?"

"No."

Enid stared into Wednesday's dark eyes, eyes that swallowed up all light around them. Enid could kiss lower, right on Wednesday's mouth. Wednesday's soft lips mocked her. Called out to her. Begged to be kissed.
