"Enid!" Abraham's voice howled out, loudly enough that Enid jolted out of her bed where she had been laying reading articles about the latest k-pop news in a bid to get her mind to stop worrying about Wednesday. She had been half successful in her attempts only because her mind kept drifting back to the rules surrounding the "Hunt." Enid knew that Wednesday was well aware of the ramifications of a true hunt, meaning that not only was Wednesday supposed to hunt down prey, she was also at liberty of hunting down Abraham if she wanted to. And the same applied to him.
Enid only hoped that Wednesday wouldn't make the fool hardy mistake of taking on her brother. Abraham had years of experience with werewolf fights and even out of his wolf form he had military training. Enid also hoped her brother wouldn't try hurting Wednesday. Surely he wouldn't be cruel enough to do so?
Then his voice had cut through her anxiety and she rushed to the window noticing her brother outside, standing along the treeline so he wouldn't leave the hunting grounds to disqualify himself. Abraham looked dire, his normal stoic features contorted in concern.
"Get down here!" he bellowed out and she rushed down the stairs three at a time, heart pounding in her chest so fast she felt she would be sick. When she got to him, he urged her to follow him into the woods, running ahead without looking back at her.
"W-what's wrong?" she puffed out. She struggled to keep up with his long legs. She forgot all about not crossing onto hunting ground territories during a hunt. Anything that crossed the line was fair game. But she was concerned over Wednesday. What had happened?
"It's Wednesday. She got hurt trying to bring down a full grown stag. It charged her. She didn't move out of the way in time and it broke her arm. We need to get her help."
It wasn't like Wednesday to get easily hurt. Enid felt sick to the stomach at this. She had been right to worry. She had been-
She slapped her hands to her cheeks. She needed to focus. Panicking would do no good in this situation.
Abraham led them to a tree. He stopped and whirled around, sniffing. "She was here. Where did she go?" He seemed upset, his shoulders tense.
Enid wrung her wrists. Maybe Wednesday went back to the house? Or more likely she was trying to continue the challenge with her broken arm.
Enid scented the air. She could smell Wednesday's familiar scent; there was a hint of distress to it. And she could tell Thing was close by. So Wednesday wasn't alone. That was a relief.
"Follow me," she said and Abraham went after her. They tracked Wednesday to a few feet away from the tree. Enid spotted the dark shaped first. Wednesday had sling around her arm, tied from what seemed to be the ripped up bit of a shirt.
"Wednesday!" Enid called out in relief, raising a hand to her.
Wednesday whirled around, eyes going wide. "Enid-"
"Don't worry we're here to help," Enid smiled, calmer now that she saw Wednesday was up and walking.
"Enid get away from him!" Wednesday shrilled out.
Enid felt the transformation- the pop in atmospheric pressure that came with it- before she saw it. She turned to look at her brother just in time to see him smack her in the side of her head with his huge sheathed paw. She went flying sideways, crashing into some prickly bushes. Her head rang momentarily, and she could taste blood in her mouth.
She could hear screaming but she couldn't tell what was being said. She sat up with some effort, feeling the pain of where she had fallen on a hard root with her spine. Abraham hovered over her, all menacing fur and muscle, before sinking his teeth into her ankle and dragging her out.
