Wednesday awoke first the following morning. Enid was still asleep by her side and Wednesday couldn't help but stare at her face, admiring the softness of it that hid the savage beast inside of Enid. Wednesday felt her injury begin to throb as her heart quickened it's pace.
It had taken Wednesday dying to realize she was in love. She couldn't believe she was in love with Enid, but it was true. Wednesday had been so blind to all the signs. Wednesday had never been in love before but now that she looked back at it, her behaviors had been so embarrassingly transparent.
Fake marriage? Who was she fooling.
Only herself.
Now, she could openly say she was in love. And how could she not be, when Enid was the antithesis to everything Wednesday was, yet Enid accepted Wednesday full heartedly for who she was. Wednesday had been in love with Enid for a long time, perhaps ever since they'd first met. Wednesday just hadn't known it at the time, because this was all so new to her- all these feelings that Enid inspired in her had never been just friendship.
Enid made a small noise as she stirred awake. She blinked bleary eyes and smiled up when she caught Wednesday's gaze. "Good morning."
"Good morning," Wednesday rasped.
"How are you feeling?"
"Alive."
Enid almost rolled her eyes at Wednesday's dry humor. She sat up, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. "This entire break has been insane. With the challenges and you getting hurt." She exhaled sharply, face tense before relaxing at happier memories. "I can't believe that we got married all before we even started dating."
"We Addams are an unconventional sort."
"I wouldn't have it any other way," Enid murmured softly.
"Truly?" Wednesday asked, surprised by how accepting Enid was.
"I like you for you, Wednesday. Because you don't need anyone's approval to like the things you do. It's your differences that make me like you, even if you do have questionable taste," she teased.
"Some people might call me insane for dating you," Wednesday said, looking up at Enid from her pillows. She stroked a finger down Enid's warm cheek.
"Liking pink is not a mental illness."
"Some might argue it's worse than that," Wednesday said with a playful tone.
"What do we do now?" Enid asked, cradling Wednesday's hand to her cheek. Wednesday was alive and well. Enid couldn't believe it. Sometimes the past 24 hours all felt like a dream.
"I would like to leave the hospital, but I know they will strap me down if I try to. Unless you can smuggle me out." She arched a brow.
"Absolutely not. You're getting your rest."
"We might have to stay our last few days of break here. It will be terribly dull and boring."
"I don't care, as long as I'm with you," Enid whispered.
Wednesday swallowed here, sorrow and guilt filling her where normal triumph would. "Enid, I'm terribly afraid I made a mess of your home life. I can't even begin to fathom how to fix things, but you have a home with me, with my family if you ever need somewhere to stay."
"Thank you. And don't feel bad. It was all bound to happen to me sooner than later. I'm just glad I had you by my side during all this." Enid squeezed Wednesday's hand in hers.
"Summer break you should come visit me," Wednesday offered.
"You sure your family won't mind?"
"They already adore you, Enid," Wednesday assured.
"Then, it's a plan," Enid said.
The last two days both dragged on and went by too quickly. Wednesday was discharged for the doctor felt there was no more reason to keep her, her heart as good as new.
"I hope to see you in pieces next time Addams," he said, clapping her on the back. "Give me a real challenge to work with."
Enid was aghast at the suggestion but Wednesday only seemed amused by it. "Don't hope too hard. I tend to crush dreams."
He sent them off and they found the Rolls Royce waiting for them outside, their bags already in the car.
"Thing will drive us back to campus," Wednesday said, as they walked hand in hand to the car. This was both nerve wrecking and exciting, going back to campus as Wednesday's official girlfriend. What would everyone think? What would they say?
Enid already knew what her family thought of this relationship and she pushed their harsh reactions aside. Her dad had called her to inform her that he had moved him, Bart, Devin, and Chris out of the house to another house for the time being as the pack healed from all this. He assured Enid it wasn't her fault, even if she felt horribly guilty about all this.
Enid knew she would eventually have to face her mother, the hired hunter situation, and the mess of the pack when she got back from school. But for now, she wanted to push it out of her mind and just enjoy her newfound joy with Wednesday. She wouldn't allow her mother to ruin one more thing- Enid would fight tooth and nail to keep her relationship with Wednesday no matter what.
That, she swore upon the moon.
And looking at Wednesday, taking in her pale skin, her dark clothes, and her somber countenance, she was Enid's moon. Because despite everything, she shadowed Enid, never far behind. And Enid always found herself worshiping the moon and drawn to it, no matter what.
Enid and Wednesday got into the car, Thing gunning it down the road as soon as they sat down.
This break had started like this- Enid and Wednesday in a car, holding hands. Except this time Enid's hand was dry and warm in Wednesday's own and instead of Wednesday reading a book, she was reading Enid's face. Looking intently with pitch black eyes.
"I realize we've never had our first official kiss as girlfriends," Wednesday said, gaze so intense Enid felt herself smoldering under it. Thing hit a button up front and a black partition rolled up to separate him from them, smartly giving them privacy.
"Let me remedy that right now, Enid," Wednesday said, breath brushing across Enid's lips before she captured them softly in her own.
Their eyes slipped closed as they kissed, heads tilting to the side sweetly.
And if they stepped out of the car a few hours later, lips swollen and hair and clothing messed up, well who could blame them?
A/n: i had to end it here, because i wanted to leave it on a positive note. there is so much stuff i still didn't get to in this story because it didn't match the original premise of it such as learning more about wed's side of the family, and wed's and enid's relationship developing.
it's why i decided i'm going to do a sequel to this called 'And you are my Sun' where i'll finally get into the addams side of the family and focus more on wed's and enid's relationship.
and esther will get her punishment for all she's done. it's going to be a more drawn out process, where she loses everything she holds dear to her over the course of the stories til she's reduced to nothing. the revenge process will long haul to make up for all the years she devalued enid.
the sequel is going to be uploaded next Wednesday, so no waiting in between stories!
