That sleep, with Wednesday cocooned tightly in Enid's arms, would have been the best sleep Enid had ever had if only they hadn't had to wake up every hour or so to deliver the potion. When morning came, they got out of bed, weary. Enid could smell Wednesday's ink and bergamot scent clinging all over her and it was wonderful. She almost regretted having to change out of her pjs.

Wednesday, almost looked a bit shocked by the fact she had spent all night long sharing a bed and that she hadn't outright stabbed someone over it. Enid nervously smiled at her, wondering if Wednesday would get mad over this. Wednesday herself wasn't sure how to feel about this, so she cleared her head and schooled her features.

"I think my arm is better," she reported, moving it in the splint and wriggling her fingers. "I'll have my aunt take it off for me."

"Good. I'm going to go get changed. We should probably hurry home so we can make it in time for mom's challenge."

Enid went to wash up in the bathroom. Thing tapped at Wednesday's ankle to draw her attention to him. "Sharing a bed with Enid....wasn't unbearable," she admitted softly. Enid was so warm that Wednesday hadn't even needed a blanket. And it had felt surprisingly nice, allowing Enid to take care of her.

Wednesday closed her eyes momentarily. Was she...did she like Enid?

Or was it all a product of pretending to be fake girlfriends that allowed them to cross their normal boundaries so easily?

Wednesday went to go find her aunt rather then dwell too deeply on this.

After a quick breakfast, Aunt Gumdrop sent them out the door with a Tupperware full of sugar cookies. "Tell your parents hello from me," she said, kissing Enid and Wednesday on the cheek. Wednesday was all too eager to sit down in the comfort of her black Rolls Royce. She shuddered with relief. "I thought the torment would never end."

"It wasn't that bad."

Wednesday gave Enid a look that said she clearly disagreed. "Thing, gun it," Wednesday said and Thing gave her a thumbs up from the steering wheel and threw the car into drive. They drove in mostly silence. The weight of the upcoming challenge set heavily in Enid's stomach. Who knew what her mother had planned. What if Wednesday got hurt again?

"Relax, Enid," Wednesday said, noticing that the blonde was clasping her hands tightly together to avoid having her claws come out and shred the leather seat. "I know what your mother's challenge will be. Thing spied on her."

"What is it?"

"A questionnaire of sorts."

That did not relieve Enid's anxiety; it sounded too simple. "What if she changed it? What if she wants to fight you?"

"I believe she does not wish to risk fighting me, afraid that she'll lose in that manner. As Alpha such a loss would be devastating to her ego."

Enid nodded her head. That did make sense, but that didn't mean she would worry less.

"How does your arm feel?"

"As good as new," Wednesday said, testing it out by flexing her fingers. "It will not impede me. And your injuries?"

"All good." Enid gave a small smile before quietly admitting, "Emotionally, still reeling."

"What Abraham did to you was beyond low. He deserved ten times worse than what your claws did to him." Wednesday's voice was steel.

"I know," Enid said with a resigned sigh. "I just want this break to be over so we can go back to Nevermore." She had initially been excited to have Wednesday over; that was before all these stupid challenges started. Before things had turned out the way they had. She hadn't meant to drag Wednesday into any of her problems.
