Chapter 9

Mackenzie's POV

We all sat anxiously as the announcer opened up the envelope as slowly as possible - which I'm pretty sure he was doing on purpose. He opened it up and carefully pulled out the card. He unfolded it with gentle care leaving us all sitting there, butterflies forming in our stomachs.

"And the winner is..."

I gripped Emily's hand.

"The boys of cabin moose!"

The boys jumped out of their chairs with excitement and began running and cheering around the stage. They all joined in a huddle and began to chant.

"WE ARE THE MOOOSE, THE MIGHTY, MIGHTY MOOOSE!!"

We all watched as the boys celebrated while we sat gloomily in our chairs. I saw a lot of sad faces as I looked down the row of girls, some on the verge of tears. I was very upset that we lost, but I don't think I could possibly sad after what Liam just said, well sang, to me! His voice was amazing and he was singing the perfect song just for me!

I then got up and tried to put the girls in a happier mood.

"Hey girls! Cheer up!" I encouraged.

"Yeah! You guys did great! They just got lucky!" Emily said in agreement. But, they girls were still upset.

I looked up and saw the boys running and cheering as they made their way back to their cabin.

"Lets get back to our cabin, girls." I said.

The girls walked back with their heads hung low. I felt like my heart was shattered in a million pieces when I saw their sad faces.

We eventually got back to the cabin an decided we should have some quiet time. The girls quietly jumped into their beds and began their quiet time. Emily immediately passed out so I took watch and made sure everything was going ok. Some girls were drawing, writing letters to their families and some were sleeping. But then I heard a faint noise coming from the far end of the room. I looked over and saw Aubrey with her face buried in her pillow. She was crying. I quickly walked over to her and put my hand on her back.

"What's wrong, Aubrey?" I asked.

She pulled her face out of her pillow and I saw her blood red eyes and tears falling down her cheek.

"N-nothing" she stammered.

"Aubrey, I know there is something wrong. You can tell me!" I told her.

"Alright, fine." she said caving in. "The whole thing was all my fault! We lost all because of me!" she said between sobs.

"Aubrey, you know that isn't true!" I said trying to encourage her. "Everybody gets stage fright! And you were very brave to get back on that stage and keep going!'

"Yeah!" I heard Parker say from behind us. I turned around and saw her looking our way. "You were awesome, Aubrey!" Parker said.

I saw Aubrey's eyes started to lighten up a bit.

"I totally agree!" Jennifer exclaimed from across the room. "You are like the best singer ever!"

A smile began to form across Aubrey's face.

"You were amazing!"

"You're the best singer ever!"

"You were fantastic!"

I heard compliments coming from every girl in the room. Aubrey's face filled with joy with a smile from ear to ear.

"Thanks guys!" Aubrey exclaimed. "But, I couldnt have done it without all of you!"

All the girls smiled and engulfed Aubrey in a giant group hug. They all headed back to their beds and continued their activities.

After 20 minutes it was about time for bed. The girls brushed their teeth, put on their pj's and got in bed. I watched and made sure all the girls were asleep and then began to doze off myself. I fell asleep alomst instantly and dreamed about all that has happened at camp so far.

I was sound asleep when i heard yelling and screaming. I was still half asleep and decided it was just a dream and fell back asleep.

Suddenly, I felt cold water being shot all over my body. I jolted awake and and saw pandemonium all around the cabin. There were girls and boys all running around the cabin.

The boys.

I jumped out of bed just to be squirted right in the face with water. I looked down and saw a little boy with dark brown hair with a water squirter pointed it at me. I think his name was Jack. He saw that i was furious and quickly ran back into the crowd of screaming kids.

I saw Liam and ran over to him. He saw me coming and quickly pulled up his gun. I was being shot right in the stomach.

"Stop!! Stop!!" I yelled.

He pulled down his gun and I quickly began to talk to him.

"What is going on here?" I asked.

"Just some late night pranking!" He replied with a giggle.

"Really?! Now I'm soaking wet!" I exclaimed.

"You'll dry! "Now have some fun!" He said as he squirted me with water.

"Oh, I'll have some fun!" I said.

I lunged at the squirter and quickly grabbed it away from him.

"Wait!" he called. "Thats mine!"

"You can have it if you can catch me!" I yelled back.

He started running toward me. I quickly squirted him in the face and turned and ran away. He wiped the water off of his face and sprinted after me. I ran into the crowd and dodged all the people around me. I turned around and saw Liam having a bit of a hard time doing the same.

I eventually got out of the bundle of people and realized I had nowhere to go but outside. It was my only option so I sprinted through the door. I had to hide quick so I ran to the lake.

I went as quickly and quietly as I could and ran behind a tree. I waited silently with my gun close and ready to squirt. I didn't hear any foot steps for a while and decided to take a peek. I slowly peered my head around the tree. I didn't see anybody so I went out even farther. I waited for a second in complete silence.

"Going somewhere?" I heard the familiar voice and began to shoot my gun, but I was a second too late.

I was suddenly tumbling to the ground with another body on top of mine. We finally stopped. Our faces this close.

"You look beautiful even when you're wet." Liam said quietly.

He pulled my face into his and our wet lips touched. It was a short kiss, but a nice one.

We stared into each other's eyes for a long time. He then rolled away and layed there next to me. We stared up at the stars in silence, his hand in mine, and slowly drifted off to sleep.
