'I hear the birds on the summer breeze,

I drive fast

I am alone in the night

Been tryin' hard not to get into trouble, but I

I've got a war in my mind.'

I was in the winter of my life, and the men I met along the road were my only summer.

At night I fell asleep with visions of myself, dancing and laughing and crying with them.

Three years down the line of being on an endless world tour, and my memories of them were the only things that sustained me, and my only real happy times.

I was a singer - not a very popular one,

I once had dreams of becoming a beautiful poet, but upon an unfortunate series of events some of those dreams dashed and divided like a million stars in the night sky that I wished on over and over again, sparkling and broken.

But I didn't really mind because I

knew that it takes getting everything you ever wanted, and then losing it to know what true freedom is.

When the people I used to know found out what I had been doing, how I'd been living, they asked me why - but there's no use in talking to people who have home.

They have no idea what it's like to seek safety in other people - for home to be wherever you lay your head.

I was always an unusual girl.

My mother told me I had a chameleon soul, no moral compass pointing due north, no fixed personality; just an inner indecisiveness that was as wide and as wavering as the ocean...

And if I said I didn't plan for it to turn out this way I'd be lying...

Because I was born to be the other woman.

I belonged to no one, who belonged to everyone.

Who had nothing, who wanted everything, with a fire for every experience and an obsession for freedom that terrified me to the point that I couldn't even talk about it, and pushed me to a nomadic point of madness that both dazzled and dizzied me.

My friendship with Marina was handed to me on a silver platter.

Bless her heart.

I really missed her and I'm really happy for her.

I can't believe she's engaged!

Sweet, devious, Marina.

I was in my cozy New York home, on my laptop.

Scrolling through my twitter, idly.

Maybe, I should go out for a bit.

Pft, yeah right.

I made myself a cup of tea and wandered through my house.

I was in my room, when I heard the familiar Skype ring, signalling an incoming call.

I jogged to where my laptop was and answered the video call.

I let out a high-pitched peep, after seeing Marina's lovely face illuminate the screen.

"Marina!"

"Lana!"

We broke into a fit of laughter.

"Show me your ring again." I demanded excited.

She flashed her big diamond rock and smiled brightly.

"You got it bad, girl."

She laughed loudly and covered her mouth instantaneously.

"I miss you, baby girl." I cooed.

"Lana, I miss you!"

"What are your plans for today, love?" Marina asked.

"I'm not too sure. I don't have anything planned. What about you? I bet your day is filed with pizazz."

"Don't be ridiculous. We're fabulous women with dull afternoons." She mused.

I laughed at the truth in her confession.

We continued to talk for a bit, until we were rudely interrupting by the charming Styles.

"Marina!" He hollered.

She let out a fake exasperation and turned to her soon to be wed hubby.

"Harry, I'm busy!" She whined.

She pointed towards the laptop and I waved happily over to Harry who returned the gesture.

"Lana!" He echoed.

"Hey!"

Marina turned to Harry and she argued with him for a bit.

It was funny to watch them interact.

Marina was such a strong willed woman, but Harry managed to make her weaken by his words, touch or affection.

I was fascinated with their infatuation.

It made me look back on my past relationships.

"Harry, I'm talking to Lana. I'll be with you in just a few moments." She shooed him away.

From what I could see, Harry gave Marina a big smooch and ran out the door.

He just wanted a kiss all along.

What a guy!

"Sorry.." Marina began.

"No, no, no. I don't mind at all. You shouldn't be embarrassed by your fiance!" I scolded her.

"Lana. I wish you were here with me!"

"I know, girl."

"Listen, I have to go. I'm going out with Perrie. She misses you as well, babes!" Marina countered.

"I miss her pretty face. Tell her I said hello."

"Bye Lana!"

"Bye Sweets."

I hung up the Skype call on a somber note and dallied around in my house.

I could tell this day was an idle one.
