"I thought you said that you weren't comfortable with me and Luna-Mia leaving the pack?"
Octavia teased as Atlas held her hand and walked out of the pack house that morning, and into their ATV, which would take them to the festival. Luna-Mia and Beta Riggs had gone a little way up, as they walked on the boardwalk towards the end of the pier.
The boardwalk was littered with people from all walks of life, clamoring to see this once in a lifetime event. Whale watchers from all over the world had descended in Mystic to watch whales, along with all the local news networks the town had to offer. This was the highlight of the year.
"I am not comfortable. There are too many people here. Imagine all the things that can go wrong."
Atlas complained as Octavia kissed his cheeks. It was sweet...seeing Atlas this over-protective, melodramatic, almost childlike side of him.
"Nothing will happen to either of us. Now stop being such a worry wart and let's catch up to the group on the boardwalk."'
Octavia said as Atlas allowed her to pull him toward the end of the boardwalk. At first, nothing happened, and the whale seemed to disappear into the depths of the ocean below. Octavia leaned over trying to see the whale. As soon as she thought that was as much of the whale as she was going to see, the whale did something surprising.
It emerged from the murky depths of the ocean on the left side of the bridge and did a perfect Fosbury flop rotating its body upside down. Octavia was quick enough to reach out her hand and touched it. His leather back was smooth to the touch, but her hand scrape against the rough algae coating its back.
It felt as if she was truly one with nature. She never in her wildest dreams would have thought that she would be touching a humpback whale while being wrapped in the arms of her werewolf mate.
"That was one of the most incredible moments of my life."
Octavia said as Atlas smiled at her.
"Every moment I spend in your presence feels like that."
Atlas said as they spent several moments last in the words that remain unsaid between them. And that was the moment that sealed the rest of their lives.
"I love you."
They both said to each other simultaneously as Beta Riggs and Luna-Mia overhead them and walked up to them happily.
"It's about God damn time. You two are the most stubborn, pig-headed people ever created and that's what makes you perfect for each other."
Luna-Mia said as she looked at Beta Riggs' smile. He looked at her like she was all the daughter he has always wanted, but never had. Whenever she would get close enough to him, he would push her further apart. Atlas walked with Octavia to steal more private moments between them as they took all the scenes.
"We need to get going, or we will miss the festival if you two don't stop trying to fuck each other with your eyes."
Beta Riggs yelled disgruntled as Atlas took Octavia's hand and walked to the stage they had set up in the middle of the town. This year's Moondance International Film Festival was hosted to honor the life of Halyna Hutchins, a Director of Photography. Ms. Hutchins was tragically killed while working on a film location in New Mexico.
The Hutchins Cinematography Award was presented to Emo Weemhof for his work Quicksand. The applause echoed in the open air, ricocheting all around them. The Halyna Hutchinson Director's Award was presented to Ms. Margo Schaaps, for the featured film "Quicksand".
The final winner of the night was Christine E. Whitten for her music video entitled "Ukraine, Ukraine", which highlighted the pleas, injustices, and resilience of the people of Ukraine. Octavia believed that it was a well-deserved award, as she cheered them on from her seat.
As entertainment, a group of dancers came up to the stage. They had on colorfully painted face masks and they dance around each other in a well-rehearsed dance. Each dance incorporated a fan and sword. It started with exquisite movements of the fan, almost wave-like, mesmerizing as the dancers moved to the beat of the drum and the soft sound of the flutes.
Their movements were slow and precise until the rhythm became faster and faster. The dances formed a five-point, attack formation that somehow seemed similar to her. The dancers then faced each other and mock attacked as Octavia felt as if she had seen this before.
This was too familiar to her as if she had done it before.
The light caught the dancer's eyes. Those hazel eyes can never be mistaken. Those eyes were the first eyes she had seen when she had killed her first werewolf. She reached for Atlas and pulled him closer as if she was going to kiss him, but instead whispered in his ears.
"Listen closely, members from the League of Assassins are here. Most likely they have a kill-on-sight order. I need you, Riggs, and Luna-Mia to get out of here. I will hold them off."
Octavia said ready to sacrifice herself to ensure that they were all safe. 'That was what a Luna does.' Atlas thought as he finds himself falling in love with her a little more. Atlas sent a mind link to Beta Riggs and Luna-Mia who blended into the crowd and disappear hopefully they went back to the pack.
"How the fuck do they keep finding us?"
Atlas wondered as he continued dancing with Octavia while they aim at them. Infrared light appeared all over their bodies. Everyone around them started screaming. They had watched enough movies, witnessed enough assassination attempts (in Atlas' case), and done enough assassinations (in Octavia's case) to know what those lights means.
Without words, the two held each other's hands and jumped into the water below, 'Baby Beluga here we come.' As they entered the cold water, they swam deeper and further away as a hail of bullets rained on them from above whale watching will never be the same again...
