chapter 7

step seven: hold my hands. it's okay.

Doyoung close his eyes as he takes a deep breath when his mother stopped him for the nth time to say something to Taeil. He is just a human being and he loses patience when his body was exhausted to death. He didn't want to get angry at his mother though, he knows his mother was only being her natural self, kind.

"Mother, it's already late," Doyoung tried to stop his mother from dragging Taeil in again. They need only a few more steps to get into Doyoung's car.

"Sleep here then, we have a lot of room. It's already late, must be dangerous driving when you are tired," Mrs. Kim tried to reason with her secondborn.

Taeil started being friends with Doyoung's parents weeks ago, it was when Doyoung's father was caught in an accident and Doyoung was out there in Busan for filming and his brother wasn't around to look over their parents.

Same as Doyoung, when Mrs. Kim was worried – she gets over panicked and forgets to take care of herself. That forced Doyoung to ask for Taeil's help to visit his parents. Taeil was the only one who crossed his mind, he forgot to call his manager. Until today, Doyoung couldn't understand why Taeil was the first person who crossed his mind when he was panicking.

He forgets how his mother reacts to anyone Doyoung brings home, the main reason why he almost never brings anyone home. She took a liking to Taeil and had been calling Taeil more often outside of Doyoung's knowledge.

Doyoung wouldn't even know about it if his father did not accidentally reveal that his mom was hanging out with Taeil. He knows his mother, loves his mother, and wishes nothing changes in her because she was perfect the way she is but – it is just that sometimes she gets overbearing and clingy.

Doyoung didn't want to bother Taeil. He has his work to take care of.

And tonight, Doyoung's mother invited Taeil for dinner to introduce Doyoung's brother, Gongmyung, to Taeil. For what? And again. Doyoung wouldn't even know anything about the dinner if Gongmyung didn't call him and asked who is Taeil. And why their mother was so excited to introduce Taeil to him?

Ended up, their mother keeps going on and on about how Taeil is Doyoung's best friend.

Best friend as if in something more serious. She keeps hinting and smiling sneakily while introducing Taeil to Gongmyung. That was the plan, that was the next step Doyoung was planning to take but he didn't want Taeil to feel suffocated around his mother. And Doyoung didn't want to use his mom in his game.

She forced her firstborn to put all the side dishes she made extra for Taeil into Doyoung's car, Doyoung can't comment on anything. Apparently, all the vegetables that were used to make the side dishes were from Taeil's mom. How? When did Taeil introduce his parent to Doyoung?

Doyoung was exhausted to have proper thought on what is happening. Taeil was so deep into his life now, Taeil had invited Doyoung to see everything about him. Is this how the games go? Even if Doyoung will manage to make Taeil cry (which he is capable of), he wasn't facing Taeil alone. His whole family and even Taeil's family will get affected now.

Is this how they play the games?

Doyoung hasn't said anything about wanting to be more serious with Taeil, he was planning to do it soon because he was running out of time. But not like this.

"I can drive," Taeil offered softly when Doyoung obviously wasn't in a great mood. Taeil was also feeling guilty that he didn't tell Doyoung about being invited to dinner by his mother. He can feel like Doyoung wasn't comfortable about Taeil's closeness to his family.
