Gwen's smile fades as I gently drop my finger from her chin. I blush a little, quickly turning my attention to the windows and crossing my legs on top of my bed. I dare not see her reaction to what I had just said.

Gwen reaches out her hand after pondering for a few seconds. Her mouth opens, ready to say something.

"Hello? Y/N? You asleep?" A voice calls out from behind my bedroom door. A knock is heard, causing me to snap my head in that direction. Gwen nods at me, shooting her webs in a flash to turn my desk lamp off. I quickly push Gwen underneath my covers before pulling the covers over myself as well.

The door slowly creeps open as the light from the hallway creeps into the room. "Y/n?" A familiar voice calls out. I stay under the covers, not responding and pretending to be asleep.

It's dark under the covers, but I can feel Gwen's presence lingering near. "Look, I just wanted to talk about everything.." My mom leans onto the doorway.

"You know I just want what's best for you. And.. I don't think that girl will provide it to you. I mean.. at the end of the day, who's going to prioritize your future more than yourself?" My mom sighs loudly.

I try to keep as still as I can, feeling a little uncomfortable at the topic of conversation. I'm afraid if Gwen knows what's happening, and what my mom is talking about.

"But, I know it's your choice. And I will respect that. But if I even catch Gwen doing anything to distract or hurt you, then I will do anything to protect you. Grounding you or anything less or more. That's how much I love you and care about you." My mom lingers at the door for a few more seconds as my mouth gapes open slightly as she mentions Gwen. My anger boils as she continues to try to convince me.

"You know.. your dad would've wanted this. He left me to protect you and make sure you have a good future.." My mom's voice trembles a little. "For you, and for all of us."

I close my eyes shut, feeling almost hurt and angry at the same time. I suddenly feel a hand creep up onto mine, holding it gently. My eyes stay shut as I try not to burst out and snap at my mom, or else she'd know that Gwen was here.

After more moments pass, the door closes shut, leaving us in total darkness. I stay silent, not knowing what to say to Gwen at the revelation that my mom had just verbally announced.

I open my mouth slightly. "Gwen. I.." She begins to hold my hand tighter in response, making me gasp a little. I sigh quietly. "I'm sorry, you had to hear that."

She gently moves herself closer to me.
"Y/n, is that all really true?" Gwen whispers softly.

"Yeah. She uh.. really doesn't want us to be friends. I'm pretty sure she'd like us better if we hated each other." I smile a little. I could feel Gwen's eyes examining me carefully, as if to feel both my sincerity and seriousness.

She then sits up, carefully, letting go of my hand. I follow her as my eyes adjust to the darkness. I still can't see her full expression, but I know she's pitying me for the person that I am. "Y/n.." She says with a serious tone.

"Yeah?" I respond with a hint of fear and anxiety in my voice. "Do you.. want us to be friends?" She says with a slight tremble in her voice. "Of course.. Why do you think my mom is constantly causing me problems when she sees me with you?" I sigh loudly.

"No. I mean, do you want to us to be friends?" Gwen asks for a second time, but with more clarity in her voice. I tilt my head. "I.. I don't understand?"
