chapter 39: end of the beginning.

M/N's POV:

A few days have passed since then and I was in the hospital bed since they said I still needed to recover from my wound. I got out the bed, put some slippers on, and made my way to Izana's room since his was across the hospital (due to him being 18).

I made it to his room and he was laying there with his eyes opened.

"Izana.." I said as I got close.

"n/n... you're okay..." he said in a low tone, it started to worry me.

"Of course Im okay, Im M/N L/N after all!" I tried to lighten the mood making him chuckle a bit.

"Where's.. the others?" He asked.

"Most of the Tenjiku higher ups got arrested and Kakucho's still in the hospital.. he's been awake though." I looked away. "I also killed Kisaki.."

"That's okay I guess."

"What are you gonna do after this?"

"I don't have much longer you kn—!"

"Don't say that Izana.. I don't want you to leave!" I had tears in my eyes just thinking about it. "I don't want you dying."

"N/N... please.." he said.

"Im sorry.." I lowered my head.

"Now you listen to me. I want you to take good care of Kakucho for me. I wasn't able to take good care of him as good as I was really supposed to since I was way too focused on my dream. I just.." I saw tears in Izana's eyes. "I want you to take care of him and Emma for me."

I stayed silent.

"I wanted to apologize to Mikey as well since he tried to save me. And I literally went after him because.." he sniffed.

"Its okay.. you'll be able to tell him, right?" He grabbed Izana's hand.

He stayed silent.

"I wish I could.."

Silence filled the whole room.

"N/N.. don't feel guilty for this. I know you wish you were the one in the bed dying right now. Don't end yourself either."

He took his hands away from me and started taking off his earrings.

"Izana..."

He held both of his earrings in the palm of his hand. "I want you to take these earrings. Give one to Kakucho, I know he would want one aswell. I want both of you to have something from me to remind you both that Im with you no matter what."

I felt tears roll down my face. I honestly couldn't handle this.

"It's okay to cry.. I'll miss you too, M/N."

I turned away while trying to hold in the fact I wanted to sob on him.

"I want to give both earrings to Kakucho.. he deserves it way more than me.." I said turning back to him.

"That's not what I want M/N.. I want the both of my brothers to have my earrings.." Izana looked at me.

"brothers..?"

"I see you both as my brothers, ever since that day we all came together for the first time.." He extended his hand that had the earrings in his palm out for me to grab.

I took it and held them in palm of my hand.

"You know.. I told you to do some things for me, but theres one more thing I want you to do before I die. It's a promise as well."

I stayed silent, I wasn't so sure about this.

"I want you.. to take care of yourself as well. Can you promise me that, m/n?"

I looked down, I wasn't sure about that myself. But if that's what he wants..

"I promise.."

"Im glad I got to know you, m/n.."

I looked at him again, his eyes were closed with a small smile on his face.

"Izana..?"

The monitor for his heart went flat, he was dead.

I sighed as I felt tears run down my face, I put one of the earrings on my right ear. I saw doctors rush in and yell at me to get out and go back to my room.

I did walk out the room, but instead, I went to Kakucho's room and saw Takemichi there talking to him. They both turned around and saw me, standing there with a straight expression with dried up tears on my face.

"n/n!" They both yelled.

"Can I.. talk to Kakucho alone please.." I said.

Takemichi nodded and walked out the room. I walked towards Kakucho while I felt more tears in my eyes.

Kakucho looked at my right ear as his eyes widen when I placed the earring on his lap. "Don't tell me.."

I looked down in shame and told him me and Izana's whole conversation.

The scarred male sighed as tears rolled down his face as well. He held the earring tightly in the palm of his hand. "I seriously don't wanna believe it.. but that's life for you.."

He was right.

I sighed, "I'll try my best to make sure you're okay Kakucho.." I started walking out the room.

"You better make sure you don't break Izana's promise n/n.."

I just walked out without saying a word. I went back to my room and sat on my bed, looking out the window.

Another few days have passed and both Kakucho and M/N were released from the hospital.

Kakucho's POV:

Going back to the orphanage felt like going back in time to me, all I could think about was memories of me and Izana playing in the snow. Such a nostalgic feeling.

I walked down the ally way where me and Izana first met, it was where I was making memorial for my parents and he destroyed it. I made one for him as well and stuck the earring right on top of it. Once I finished, I got up and walked away.

'rest easy, Izana..' I thought.

Basically to round everything up, M/N L/N successfully saved Emma Sano.. but failed to save Izana Kurokawa. Tetta Kisaki and Hanma Shuji have been found guilty. One was killed, the other still on the run.
