After finding out that Percy was dead, Sally was in a trance for days. She declared her revenge upon the gods, then went into a depression. Paul let her deal with her inner thoughts, knowing what she was going through. While Sally had been sleeping, Paul had sobbed for hours over his stepsons death. He hadn't known Percy that long, but he loved the kid.
Percy almost immediately accepted Paul into his family, and was supportive when he wanted to marry Sally. Looking back to the day he asked Percy's permission, he laughs. He was going through so much from the war, and then Paul went up to him and asked for Percy's blessing like Paul was his biggest worry. It seems like such a small thing to him now, but back then it meant the world to him that he would be a part of Sally's life, and that Percy would be okay with it.
Paul had put Sally in her bed after the funeral, then went to the couch and sobbed. After he calmed down, he made a bowl of popcorn and watched his favorite show until Sally woke up. When Paul saw that Sally didn't know what he was upset about, he thought about not telling her. He didn't want her to go through what he was going through, and knew that it would be ten times worse, her being Percy's mother. But he didn't want her to find out through something else, and for her to be living a lie. So Paul got up the courage to tell her the truth, and it hurt so much to see the pain in her eyes as he explained.
After about two weeks, Sally pulled herself out of her depression and started to go out with her friends that knew about Percy's world. She slowly started to be much better, and was enjoying herself. Paul was happy for her, knowing that Percy wouldn't want her to be sad forever after his death. Sally was smiling more, joking around, and after about another month, she was back to her old self.
She was still sad about Percy's death, but didn't let it destroy her happiness. Eventually she went back to work, and after every work day, she would plan her revenge on the gods. She would grab a piece of paper, and start writing down her plans, putting down people she would have to contact, and recording ideas she was having to keep the gods from discovering her. Paul had to admit, she was very good at this revenge thing, but he was trying to do everything in his power to stop Sally from going forward with these plans.
He knew that Percy wouldn't want her to wish revenge on the very people that gave him his friends and girlfriend. Percy would investigate on why Zeus said that he felt like he was being controlled, and why all of his friends were killed around the same time. Paul hope that Percy was with his friends in the underworld, enjoying his time in Elysium with his girlfriend. For everything he had been through, Percy deserved to not deal with all the horrors of the Greek world anymore.
Paul was using every idea and bribe he could muster to stop Sally from trying to get revenge, but it was no use. He brought in all her friends to try and convince her, but she got mad at him and locked herself away for hours to work on her plans. He even tried to get any kind of family she had to stop her, but no one came on his request. Eventually, he tried to steal her papers and hide them from her, but she found them. She was determined, and there was nothing he could do to stop it.
A/N ~ Wow, that was not the chapter I was expecting to write. It was good though. I feel like people under appreciate Paul and his role in Percy's and Sally's life. The books don't really show his emotions, his role is to support Sally and her dreams, and that's it. Well, comment what you think of this chapter, if it was good or bad, and vote if you like it. Thanks!
