After Paul had told Sally what would happen if the gods were destroyed, he had hoped that she would abandon all her plans completely. For a few days, he believed he was successful, but then discovered her list of recruitment on her desk. He questioned Sally about it, and any hope he had was dashed.
"Sally, I found a list of the demigod's parents on your desk. Are you still trying to get revenge on the gods?" he asked with concern.
Sally looked angry all of a sudden. "You looked through my private papers?"
"No, I didn't" he responded hastily. "I was just passing your desk and the title of the paper caught my eye".
"Well if you must know Paul, yes, I still plan to get revenge on the gods. But," she added when she saw his expression "I don't plan to destroy the gods. I don't know how I will get revenge, but it will happen."
Paul was clearly relieved, but was still going to try and convince Sally to not go along with revenge at all. For that, he was going to go a different route.
"Sally, why do you feel the need to get revenge?"
Sally gave him a look like it should be obvious. "Because Percy was killed by Zeus himself, and he couldn't live his life because the gods sent him on deadly quests every time they saw he was trying to relax. None of his friends were able to live either, and they all were killed."
Paul took her hands and and gave her a kiss. "Sally, I know you want to get revenge, and I will support you as long as it's nothing that will get you killed. But please think about this. Percy was able to find all of these friends because the gods were sending him on these quests. He was able to meet the love of his life. No, he wasn't able to have a great life, but at least he had friends to support him. Even though he was almost always risking his life, he never had to go through it by himself."
"Paul, I'm not just doing this for Percy. I'm doing this for all the demigods who's lives were wrecked by the gods. Not just modern demigods either. All the poor kids who couldn't enjoy their time here, the ancient Greek demigods 3,000 years ago, to the present. None of them were able to live peaceful lives. My mission is to get revenge for all of those people."
Sally let go of his hands and walked away to her desk. She sat down and looked at her list. If she wanted to do this, she was going to need an army.
She wrote a letter to Frederick Chase, with a request.
Dear Frederick,
I hope you are having a great day with everything that has happened. I would like to come and visit your family in San Francisco. I have an idea that I would like to include you on, but I don't want to ask this of you over a letter. Paul is trying to convince me to not go through with this, but he is not doing a great job. If you are fine with it, I will come to your house to discuss this with you. Write back as soon as possible.
Sincerely, Sally Jackson
Sally sealed the letter and left her apartment. She drove to the post office and dropped off the letter. After she got back to her apartment, she went to bed and had a dreamless sleep.
***
A few weeks after Sally sent out the letter, she got mail from San Francisco. She went to her desk and opened the envelope. Inside was a letter from Frederick.
Dear Sally,
Things have been very emotional here, and we would love to have you at our house. Whatever you want to ask me, I'm sure my answer will be yes. We will be waiting for your visit.
Sincerely, Frederick Chase
After reading the letter, Sally immediately grabbed her suitcase and started packing. After she was done, she got on her laptop and bought a plane ticket to San Francisco for the next day. She went to the living room to inform Paul in what was going on.
"Hey Paul, I just got a letter from Frederick and he said I was welcome at his house whenever I'm going to be there, so I just bought a plane ticket for tomorrow morning. I'm going to need a ride to the airport so if you could drive me that would be fantastic."
Paul looked up from his bowl of popcorn. "Sure Sally, whatever you need. Quick question though, why did he invite you there just like that?"
"Because" Sally started, "I asked him if I could go visit him a few weeks ago, he said yes."
She walked out of the room and sat at her desk to think about other ways to get revenge. She sat there for hours with not a single idea on how they were going to accomplish this. Eventually, she went to bed and had a nightmare about when Percy was killed, right in front of her eyes.
A/N ~ Hello everyone! I keep procrastinating writing chapters, but I am working on it. Earlier this week I went to the bookstore for the first time to actually get books. I went to a Barnes and Noble that was a couple of hours away in a city, and I had so much fun! I got three books, the Sun and the Star, the Bane Chronicles, and Threads That Bind. I have to finish the Eldest Curses first, but I'm listening to the audiobook version of the Red Scrolls of Magic so sometimes I'm too lazy to listen to a book. Writing a book is hard too. I think when I finish this book, I'm going to start writing one-shots. I'm always thinking of ideas but not ideas for a whole book. Anyway. Comment what you think of this chapter. Is it good? Is it bad? Thanks!
