Audrey strolled down the road looking through the windows of different shops. She could have easily applied to work in a hospital, given that she had learnt all of her healing abilities from Katara, who was considered the best. But something urged her to apply to the Police Station, if this urge had anything to do with her mother, she didn't know.
She reached a block of apartments and climbed up the stairs. She lived on the second floor from the top, giving her a Scenic view from the windows there. She unlocked her door and walked in. The floor was covered in wooden panels, to her left, was a bookshelf which much to Audrey's disappointment was almost empty- she could only carry two or three books with her while travelling.
Against the same wall was a dark green couch that faced a coffee table. The coffee table was on top of a red mat. On the far end of the room was a gas stove in-between two wooden counters. The wall also had four square windows which gave her a view the city from above. Audrey sighed closing the door behind her and locking it. It was now about six o' clock in the evening and she had to be back at the police station in twelve hours. She dropped her bag and keys on the coffee table and settled on a simple sandwich for dinner.

*knock knock*
"Come in." Lin muttered looking up from another file on her desk.
Audrey gingerly opened the door and was immediately overwhelmed by the smell of coffee. It was 5:55 in the morning and she could see that the Chief had been here for a while.
"What time did you get here?" Audrey asked. The room was much more silent than yesterday. No one was at the police station yet, only the few that had evening shifts in case there is trouble during the night.
"Four o' clock." Lin responded, with a sigh. She stood up and walked to her door, gesturing for Audrey to follow her out. She eventually found herself in a room full of cupboards with a large table in the middle. Lin walked to a cupboard on the far left and began shuffling through the clothes. Audrey stood there awkwardly finding a sudden interest in her shoes.
"The officers are usually men." Lin said, moving through the piles of clothes, "so you may be the first female." She finished.
"After you?" Audrey questioned.
"Mm" Lin responded standing straight up again.
"I would give you the suit I wore but you're going to be very small in it." Lin thought, looking at her up and down.
Audrey suddenly felt very self conscious, "anything I can help with?" She blurted. Lin nodded, "look in the cupboard over there", she pointed." The shoes are kept in there and the cables in the cupboard next to it." She suddenly left the room, an idea popping into her head. Audrey watched her go. The Chief wasn't that bad, strict, but still somewhat caring. She couldnt believe that this woman was her mother.
She turned to the cupboard and took out a pair of shoes, she then moved onto the cables which were hung up on hooks, below them were piles of metal discs that the cables needed to be attached to.Audrey took one of each, making sure to take a smaller disc so it would later fit on her back.
The Chief walked in with a hanger covered with a plastic film. She lay it on the table and removed the plastic. Below was an officer uniform.
"This is the only other female uniform in this building. You'd better hope it fits."
Audrey nodded walking toward the Chief.
"Take off your jacket and shoes." Lin told her.
Audrey obeyed quickly.
"Turn with your back towards me. And flip the uniform over your head." Lin commanded.
Audrey turned. And with a quick movement she flipped the uniform- just for it to hit her head.
"Ow!" Audrey gasped touching her head.
"Try again!" Lin snapped suddenly impatient.
Audrey was slightly scared now.
She stood up straight and stretched her arms out in front of her she breathed in and pulled her arms to her abdomen.
Her suit draped itself across her, the metal clasps connecting over her shoulders while the belt slid around her waist. She turned to Lin who looked her up and down."Strange how a suit that fit my mother forty years ago fits you perfectly." Lin remarked.
Audrey gasped,"This is Toph Beifong's?" she asked, gesturing to her uniform.
"You better treasure it." Lin responded.
"Now sort out the rest of your gear."

By one o' clock, Audrey was back in her apartment with a thick textbook. Her 'homework' as Lin called it, was to read the textbook by the following day.
Had the woman done a task like this herself? She had seventeen hours to finish the book- that is if she doesn't sleep! Audrey sat on her couch and pulled out the book, beginning to read. The next time she pulled away from the book was sometime in the night. She had forgotten all about dinner and rather indulged in arresting protocol. She stood up, stretching her legs and moved to the gas stove, switching it on and putting a pan on it. She might as well have an egg so that she could at least avoid hunger later. The next day she arrived at the Chief's office at six. The new work life slowly sunk in as Audrey took home 'homework' every evening and worked during the day.
Soon the homework changed into report files, and the work changed into patrols but she could never have predicted the chaos Harmonic convergence would bring.
