The Wrong Place

I stared up at my ceiling contemplatively.

My night went by painfully slow as I spent most of my time doing as much research on suboceanic floors and ecosystems as I could.

To my dismay, most of the articles online were written by Dr. Tobias Ford.

After about four hours I had a good thesis and background research fresh on my portfolio. Without the help of Auden, I might add.

The program's demand for independent research is crucial for even being considered for a grant.

Thankfully this spout of determination (and not at all spite) was quite helpful at getting me ahead of the game. Some people here still haven't even chosen their research topics.

I forced poor Hamilton to stay in my room all night to make sure I was staying on the right track.

When I get hyper-focused on something,  my mind tends to get a little too creative. I go on rants about unimportant issues until it is too redundant to even look at.

Thankfully with a little bit of begging and promising, Hamilton agreed to read over all of my stuff.

In return, after I was finished, we were gonna have sort of a girl's night. Stay up watching movies and pampering ourselves until we couldn't keep our eyes open.

If that was the price for his help, he might as well move in here. Gods know I could use the help, plus I really liked having him around.

Back home I never really had any die-hard friends.

I had school friends sure, but never anyone that I would spend my free time with.

That was fine with me though because I had my dad.

He would go shopping with me and see all the newest movies with me even though he fell asleep in the theatre every time.

I was so happy we could have a relationship like that, but now I am more than grateful that I can have someone I'm real with.

Hamilton and I have no filter. The man likes to go into an absurd amount of detail about all aspects of life.

There is no such thing as too much information to that man.

I cherish him for being so open.

The second I finished my research, I sprung out of my chair and flopped my stale legs over to the bed where Hamilton was lying.

"Please tell me you're done!" He whined.

I smiled at the big pout he was giving me.

"Yes little baby, I'm done" I smiled.

He immediately jumped out of my bed and slid his little bunny slippers on.

"Okay let's go then!"

I tried to control my thoughts when I looked at him.

"What?" I asked simply, not wanting to dwell like an idiot.

"Marshmallows" was all he said before opening my door and stepping out into the hollow halls of the lodge.

I scurried up the steps after his retreating figure.

The second I closed my door behind me, I knew I had made a mistake.

The halls were freezing cold.

In a place this big, I would assume that there would be heating everywhere.

There was not.

And so, I was left to freeze in my boxer shorts, tank top and fuzzy Ugg slippers.

"Hamilton slow down please" I whisper-shouted while vigorously trying to warm my arms and keep pace with him.
