I walked the empty streets of the night, just exhausted by my life.
I have no one in my life anymore, my fault i guess.
Once again I was waiting for a call from a job interview, i already knew what was going to happen. It has happened 10ish interviews before. They have never called back.
I can barely manage my rent and i am so close to getting evicted.
I sighed for the 100th time tonight.
Suddenly i saw a girl walking just looking around. I was confused but hey i dont know what people are up to anymore.
As i was getting closer to her, an ambulance passes having its alarm on.
I saw the girl panic and run to hide, but fell into a bush.
I was a bit concerned but i made my way towards her.
I grabbed her and pulled her out of the bush.
once she saw that I was holding her she pushed me away and stared at me.
"are you alright?" i asked.
She just stared at me and very hesitantly nodded.
I was about to say something when i heard someone running up to us.
"hey hey hey dani are you okay baby?" an older woman came and wiped her tears.
She nodded her head and then looked at me.
The older woman noticed and turned to see me.
"Oh sorry dear, this is my daughter danielle and she left home. Uhhh i dont know how but...." she zoned out.
I can tell the lady was stressed.
"Its okay, is she alright tho? I dont know if something happened when she fell in the bush but she hasnt spoken.
The woman just smiled softly, "she is autistic, she can speak well but she prefers not to, she isnt comfortable."
"ohhh okay sorry." i bowed on repeat.
She giggled slightly, " its okay dear, well we should get going its late." she said as she tugged on Danielle's shirt.
She never once stopped looking at me. she shook her head.
"dani baby come on we have to go." the woman sighed.
Danielle came to me and held onto my jacket sleeve, then looked back at her mom.
"No dani, she cant come with us." she pinched the bridge of her nose.
Danielle stopped her leg and her eyes teared up.
I was confused but i spoke up.
"If its not a problem i can go back with you guys, you know till she is comfortable letting me go." i said with a smile.
The woman looked at me, " I dont know, i dont want to bother you, its late and to be honest i dont think she is going to let you go." she sighed softly.
"its okay, i can leave once she sleeps or something." as i said that Danielle tugged my sleeve and looked upset.
The mother nodded, "it is late, we will talk once we get home."
We walked a bit down, danielle not once letting me go, we got into a car and danielle sat close to me but not touching me.
I was admiring the outside before i realized we got there. I looked out to see a mansion.
I was in awe, we got out of the car and we headed inside. Automatically i felt like i didnt belong there.
The mom tried taking Danielle away from me to get her changed, but she wouldnt budge.
"Let me help her." the mother nodded before leading me to her room and getting her clothes.
The mother stood back and observed me and danielle.
"Hey, Danielle, my name is y/n i know i havent told you yet. But is it okay if i touch you, I promise I wont touch anywhere you dont want me too." i said softly with a smile.
She nodded. "y/n" she repeated.
"Yeah thats me." i smiled.
"y/n.......y/n.....y/n.." she repeated over and over again.
i smiled as i grabbed her hand to get it off my sleeve i held it till i thought she was ready.
I slowly placed my hand on her shoulders.
She jumped a little before looking at me.
"go get changed alright? I'll be here." she nodded as she went to the bathroom and came back out.
I led her to the bed and placed her down, as i was getting up, she held on to my sleeve and shook her head.
I heard the mom get up before i turned to face her and smiled, she relaxed as she sat back down.
I laid down next to her not touching her too much.
She out of a sudden she hugged me tight and fell asleep fast within minutes.
I took the time to look at her features, she was very beautifully.
"Thank you, y/n" the mom said from the chair with genuine smile.
"its okay, its no problem really." i looked back at danielle sleeping.
"She doesnt even act like that towards me. It honestly suprising how fast she got comfortable with you." she said.
I slowly got away from danielle.
"i think i should get going now." i said bowing.
"hmmmm what do you think about working here?" I looked up at her with widen eyes.
"You can even stay here, and i'll pay you, just to look after danielle. You are already doing a better job than me." she said.
I pondered her words, I just dont want to do anything wrong, something that might trigger danielle. But i really need the money.
I agreed, the woman sighed a breath of relief.
"Good now ill bring you some clothes, protect her at all cost y/n" she left the room.
I looked back at danielle sleeping so peacefully, i found myself smiling.
Yeah, i'll be here protect her no matter what.
