Flashback

Lilianna stared at the pregnancy test, her jaw dropping in disbelief as she saw the word "positive" appear on the tiny screen. It couldn't be true. She had been so careful. She was on birth control and had never missed a pill.

But there was no denying it. She was pregnant.

Lilianna felt a surge of panic wash over her. She was not ready for this. She was barely keeping up with her job and education, let alone raising a child. And what about the father? They had only been together for a few months. What would he say?

She picked up her phone and dialed his number, her hand shaking as she held it to her ear.

"Hey, what's up?" he answered, sounding casual.

Lilianna took a deep breath. "I took a pregnancy test," she said, her voice shaking. "I'm pregnant."

There was a long silence on the other end of the line. Lilianna's heart was pounding in her chest.

Finally, he spoke. "Wow. That's...unexpected."

Lilianna felt a surge of anger. Unexpected? He made it sound like it was a surprise party, not a life-changing event.

"What are we going to do?" she asked him, trying to keep the panic from her voice.

He paused for a moment, and Lilianna could hear him breathing on the other end of the line.

"I don't know," he said finally. "I need some time to think about this."

Lilianna felt a wave of frustration wash over her. She needed his support right now, not his hesitation.

"I can't do this alone," she said, her voice rising. "I need you to be here for me."

"I know," he said, his voice sounding strained. "I just need a little time."

Lilianna hung up the phone, feeling alone and scared. She had always thought that she would have children someday, but not like this. Not when she was already struggling to keep up with her own life.

But as she sat there, feeling the weight of the news settling heavily on her shoulders, she began to feel a tiny spark of excitement. She was going to be a mother. It wasn't what she had planned, but it was still a blessing.

Lilianna knew that there would be challenges ahead. But for the first time in her life, she felt like she was part of something bigger than herself. And that was something worth fighting for.

2 MONTHS LATER

The brunette's heart raced as she paced back and forth. Her eyes were filled with tears as she tried to come to terms with the fact that the father of her baby had disappeared without any trace. She had trusted him completely, and now she was left alone to deal with the consequences of their reckless passion.

She knew that she had to tell someone about her pregnancy, but she didn't want to burden her parents. So, she turned to her older brother, Paddy. He had always been there for her, and she knew that he would listen without any judgement.

One day, when Paddy came over to visit, Lilianna summoned all her courage and spoke her truth. Her voice shook as she told him that she was pregnant and that the father had disappeared.

At first, Paddy was shocked. But he quickly composed himself and embraced his younger sister. "We'll figure this out together," he assured her.

Together, they went through the options. Lilianna considered an abortion but couldn't bring herself to go through with it. Adoption was also discussed but ultimately ruled out. They agreed that Lilianna would raise the baby on her own.

Paddy provided her with emotional and financial support, and helped her prepare for the baby's arrival. He was there during the birth, and held Lilianna's hand as she pushed through the pain.

As Lilianna held her newborn baby in her arms, she looked up at her brother with love and gratitude in her eyes. She knew that she could always count on Paddy, no matter what life threw at her.
