"Hayley!" tawag ko.
Tumayo ako sa kinauupuan ko at sinalubong ko ito ng yakap. I haven't seen her for a few years, we've been talking over the phone, but that's all that has been happening. It's quiet to embrace once again though. Such a good feeling to be around the people who were part of my childhood.
"Laki mo na, a?" I chuckled.
She giggled. "Malaki na talaga ako. Ilang taon kang wala, e. But happy to see you back here! Ginulat mo kami!"
"Well, that was my intention."
She giggled and put her attention on my mom. "Hello po, Tita Ava."
I glance at Cory and she was sitting and a smile that I'm not sure if was forced or a genuine one. Hayley hugged my mom and it seemed like they haven't seen each other for a long time the way they embraced each other. I chuckled at how close they were. She knew them when she was young so basically, my mom knew her all her life.
"Nasaan ang kapatid mo? Si Jonathan?"
"Kanina ko pa nga po hinahanap si Kuya Onat. Sabay sana kami pupunta rito," sagot niya. "Hindi ko alam kung saan na naman nagpunta 'yon. Pero tinext ko na naman."
"Matagal na kaming hindi nagkita niyan ni Jonathan," aniko habang pinapapak ang hita ng lechon manok. "Papuntahin mo pa rin dito, ha!"
"Sige." Hagikgik ni Hayley.
"Tara na, samahan mo na kami kumain," pag-imbinta ko pa. "May gusto akong ipakilala sa 'yo and I'm sure you'll love her."
Hayley glanced at Cory who was still sitting silently on her chair. We sat back at the table. Hayley sat across me while Cory's sitting next to me.
"Oh, Hayley, si Cory nga pala," pagsisimula ko bilang pagpapakilala ko sa kanilang dalawa. "Cory, this is Hayley. Kababata ko."
Somehow, that put a smile on her face. "Hello, Hayley!" Nakangiti nitong pagbati sa kanya. "Nice to meet you!"
"Hello, Cory!" Nakangiting tugon ni Hayley.
The way they shared the smile, I know I wasn't wrong when I first thought about it. It's unbelievable and almost impossible that this would happen at this very time, but things fall into place and we're here.
"Kamosta kaw?"
"How are you raw," pagta-translate ko naman sa kanya.
"Ah, okay. Uh... ayos lang. Enjoy sa work."
"Wow! Nandito ka sa Cuyo dahil sa work mo?" Tumango ito sa tanong niya. "Sana all! Ilang taon ka na ba?"
"Ah, 24 na 'ko," simpleng tugon ni Cory.
"Ay! Ate na pala kita, e! Kate-twenty ko pa lang. Mas matanda ka pala sa akin. Masyado akong walang galang do'n."
"Ayos lang!" Ngiwipa ni Cory. Napangisi ako sa reaksyon niya. Natural lang sa kanya.
