We arrived at Terminal Three after thirteen hours of flight, just like when we leave the Philippines to Australia, it was exhausting. We felt the same thing but leveled up as we just want to lay on the bed and wait for the next day to come.
Cory wasn't still speaking with me kahit anong lambing ang gawin ko. I stayed in her condo for the night and slept on the couch so I could give some space for her. In the morning, I'll be leaving to go back to Palawan again.
Exhaustion should knock me off hard, but I woke up at two in the morning. I tried closing my eyes and getting back to sleep since I had a flight tomorrow and I can't miss it, but I think it took me fifteen minutes I wasn't able to fall asleep again.
I checked on my phone and there were no notifications, I checked the messenger app and saw Cory was online. Napabangon ako sa pagkahihiga ko saka ako tumungo sa kwarto ni Cory. I slowly pushed the door forward so it won't make a noise and then I found a light from the phone on the bed.
"Can't sleep?"
"Putang ina!" she startled. "Douglas?!" sigaw nito sa akin.
I flicked the switch on the wall and it turned the lights on. Nakakusot ang noo nitong tiningnan ako. I just stayed in the doorway looking at her.
"Hindi ka makatulog?"
"I've slept enough sa plane," sagot nito. "Nakatulog lang ako saglit tapos nagising na. Bakit ikaw? Gising ka pa, e, may flight ka na bukas?"
"I couldn't sleep as well. Saw you online so I had to check in on you. I was right, you were awake. Do you want me to join you here?"
"Matulog ka na lang," pautos nitong tugon sa kanya.
"Let me join you for a bit, then let's sleep together—of course, I'll be back on the couch."
I jumped on the bed with her and she sat up right-leaning her back against the headboard. I sat down on the edge of the bed.
"So, how was everything?"
"Feel good," tipid nitong sagot sa akin. "I still feel like kapag maliwanag na sa labas, we'll still be visiting places. I know reality will hit me so hard once the sun comes out tomorrow."
"Well, same," I said. "We've been in Australia for too long so I understand where you are coming from. But life will hit me so hard tomorrow as I'll be flying back to Palawan. Sama ka?"
Napangisi siya sa tanong ko.
"Seryoso 'yon? Sama ka sa akin sa Palawan?"
"I've got work."
"You said you can work from home—but literally anywhere," I corrected myself. "You can come with me or stay here in Manila. Your choice."
"Kulang ka lang siguro sa tulog, Douglas. Kung ano-ano nang naiisip mo."
