The next day Keith awoke confused looking down at his bed. 'Didn't I pass out in the hall? How'd I get in here? What even happened last night?' Keith shook his head. "Whatever.." He quickly got up and got ready. He'd actually got sleep the night before and felt slightly better. Today was an important mission him and Allura had put together. They needed to gather intel in a Galra infested ship. Him and Pidge would be gathering intel from one area of the now invaded ship while Hunk and Lance would get the other side of the ship. While one would gather Intel the other would guard them. It seemed like a fine plan until all of the Galra on the ship only came to Keith and Pidge's side of the ship. The two were completely cornered but once Pidge was wounded by one of the Galra Keith went ballistic. He managed to fight off most of them and then Lance and Hunk came over to help after hearing all of the commotion. "Pidge.." Keith mumbled turning to the paladin.
Pidge had slid down onto the floor their blood staining the wall behind them. Keith quickly took an unconscious Pidge into his arms panicked. "What happened? Is Pidge alright?" Hunk asked worried as the group started to run back to get Pidge into a healing pod.
"Galra happened." Lance's eyes stuck on Keith. He seemed bitter. He seemed angry at Keith. That look, it reminded him of Allura's. Keith couldn't believe that it was now Lance who was looking at him with such disgust. He tried his best to ignore the death stare Lance was giving him. He was more concerned about Pidge's condition after all.Once they had gotten Pidge into a healing pod the tension became even stronger on Lance's part. Of course he was silently blaming Keith but without doubt Keith knew it would turn verbal in no time.
He just had to wait for Lance to stop pacing back in forth in front of Pidge's healing pod. Hunk fidgeted with his hands nervously noticing how angry Lance looked. Just then Lance swiftly turned to face Keith. The raven hair turning to face away from the angry brunette.
"So, how did our leader happen to get one of his paladins almost killed, huh?" Keith's eyebrows furrowed as he turned to face Lance.
"What do you mean by that, Lance? It's not like I wanted Pidge to get hurt! I was trying to help but we were completely cornered and I could barely defend myself, let alone Pidge." Lance rolled his eyes.
"So, you're admitting that you're an awful leader and that the black lion chose horribly wrong?" Keith tensed up more than he had been before.
"Lance, I'm trying, okay? What more do you want from me?" Hunk instantly noticed the hurt and exhaustion in Keith's voice and tried to come up with a way to calm Lance down."What do I want from you? Oh, I don't know, maybe to understand why in ALL OF THE WORLD would the black lion choose someone like YOU! You're a horrible leader! I mean, you suck at teamwork! How can you be a leader if you want to be all 'solo' and all 'I can do this myself' all of the time! It's stupid!" Hunk shook his head.
"Lance, stop it. It wasn't Keith's choice to be the black lion's pilot." Hunk explained.
"Thank you, Hunk. And what? Do you think that YOU should be the leader or something?""Wait, Keith-"
"Duh! I'd be a hell of a lot better leader than you could ever be!"
"Lance, all you can do is shoot a gun. I mean if you were in close range combat you'd be screwed. Oh, wait! That already happens. Every time someone has to come to your rescue don't they? Especially Shiro! But w-where is he now?" Keith paused after mentioning Shiro and when he spoke again his voice was awfully quiet. "You should just go back to your family, Lance." Keith hadn't meant that in the worst possible way. He'd wished he had a huge family to go back to himself."FUCK, Keith! And you wonder why nobody fucking sticks around in your life! You're unbearable!" Lance shouted. The room went quiet after that. Keith's eyes were the widest they'd ever been. It was clear just how hurtful those words were. Even Hunk knew he couldn't say anything to make what Lance had said go away. Keith took a step back and the two watched Keith's eyes flutter as he looked downwards unable to look at Lance any longer.
Lance's anger stayed visible in his expression. He still hadn't realized just how badly he'd hurt Keith. The raven haired male swayed as he turned around.
"What, you've got nothing to say? You don't even want to hit me or anything?" Lance tried to instigate but at the same time he was genuinely confused by the way Keith was acting. Keith didn't even fight back. It scared Lance just a little bit.
With that the two watched as Keith stumbled out of the room and down the hall, his hair swaying as he wobbled side to side.
Lance turned to Hunk and weirdly enough his face was that of actual anger which confused Lance even more. "Lance... Both of you were wrong.. But you just took it way too far." Hunk explained.
"What?! Hunk, yo-"
"If you don't go after him and fix things I won't forgive you." Hunk stated, his glare quite intense. Lance was going to fight him on this but he didn't want to upset Hunk more than he already had.
"Fine.."
