It was about four days after Christmas, and Huckleberry Hound and his friends were taking a walk into town, with their winter scarves wrapped around their necks. Even in California, the weather got a little chilly despite the lack of snow. They made their way down to the soda shop and walked inside, immediately browsing the shelves to treat themselves to a little something sweet to sip on.
"Look, Huck!" Hokey Wolf called out, pulling a purple bottle off of the shelf. "I think you'll like what you see here!"
The blue dog looked at the label on the bottle. "Well hush my mouth!" he exclaimed. "Huckleberry soda!! I gotta try that one for sure!!"
He grabbed the bottle and took it to the counter, where he paid for it. Then he popped off the top and took a taste.
"Mmm! It's terrific!" he beamed.
"Well it's no wonder why you love anything huckleberry-flavored!" Mr. Jinks chuckled. "It's in your name after all!"
Pixie and Dixie were looking at some of the other soda flavors on the shelf when they spied a flyer posted on the bulletin board on the wall nearby.
"Ooh! A New Years Eve celebration!" Dixie cried.
"At Super Family Fun Land!!" Pixie finished.
Huck nearly ended up doing a spit take as he took another drink of soda, but managed to stop himself and swallow it down as his ears perked up. "Did I just hear that correctly?!" he shouted. "Super Family Fun Land is havin' a New Years Eve celebration?!?"
"I didn't know theme parks were open at night!" Ding-a-Ling exclaimed.
"Usually they're not!" Jinks cried. "But this must be a first!"
"Yeah, it says that they're gonna be open until two in the morning!" Dixie said. "But it doesn't say exactly what will be at the party."
"I doubt the rides will be running," Hokey muttered. "They must have something else in mind."
"Ohh, I wish we knew!" Pixie sighed. "Maybe we could go and ask someone if they've heard anything!"
"But what about the ball drop?" Jinks asked.
"Yeah! Shucks, that's a New Year's tradition!" Huck added. "I'll be mighty disappointed if there ain't one at the park!"
"Don't worry, Huck!" Hokey said. "There's gonna be a big countdown anyway!"
"That's for sure," Huck replied. "But man, I sure wish I knew what sorts of things there will be to do at this party! It already sounds like fun!"
"Well, let's see if anyone in town knows anything about it," Ding-a-Ling suggested.
"Yeah, we can ask some of our neighbors!" Huck smiled.
So the gang headed into town to ask some of their neighbors if they knew about the party at Super Family Fun Land.
"I heard that there's gonna be a lot of music!" one man told them. "There will be jazz, but a lot of rock and roll too!"
"I know that's what's popular," Huck nodded. "Shucks, I can add a little rock n' roll-type influence to my next song and dance!"
"But I'm not sure about all the details, other than that," the man said. "But if not mistaken, you're scheduled to perform at the party too!"
"I am!?" Huck cried, excitedly. "Oh goody goody gosh!!"
"I wonder what you're gonna perform at the party!" Hokey told the hound.
"Oh, I think I have the perfect song to sing! You're gonna love it!"
