Y/n twirled the toothpick around the drink, watching the liquid swish around. The colors of the bar had popped out at her, making her more and more dizzy by the second. She dropped the stick on the table, clenching her eyes and forcing herself to take more of the alcohol down, even though she was already feeling like she was sick.
She downed it anyway, trying to make the most of the drink that the man beside her already paid for. She had to send flirty compliments back to him in order to get these drinks, but she managed well enough.
"What happened to your leg?" He asks.
She looks down, the alcohol distracting her from the swelling pain that the wound caused. "Car crash." She states, looking forward and trying to zone out his voice.
"Damn, how'd it happen?" He keeps staring at her face, her eyes half-lidded.
"Drunk driver." She took another sip from the drink, both elbows on the counter.
"Well, at least you're okay." She gave him a quick side eye, than sighed, spinning the bar stool to face him and taking one elbow off the table.
"Do you have a cigarette or something?" She asks.
He inhales, patting his pockets and digging in one, putting it on the table along with a lighter. "Knock yourself out."
She flicks the lighter open, seeing the tip of the cigarette glow as she inhaled it, feeling the buzz of calmness.
"You're not from here, are you?" He asks. She stared at him as smoke blew out in front of her, the yellow light illuminating on them and showing the gray wisps in the air. She didn't answer, bringing the knee closest to the counter up on the chair to make herself feel more comfortable.
"Where are you from sweetheart?" He brings his hand up, grazing her gentle face with his thumb. She blows smoke into his face, causing him to fan his hands in front. "Hm? Are you from the city? Or did you just fly from-" she puts her hand over his mouth, stopping him from finishing his sentence.
Meanwhile Miguel had been sat in a red minivan, suddenly feeling Y/n's presence, and the uncomfortableness radiating off of her. He finished hot-wiring it, getting it to start and making his way to the bar. The sun had set by now, the moon lighting up the night sky.
"You don't want me to speak?" The man chuckles, his stubble scratching against Y/n's hand. She drew her hand back in slight disgust and shook her head.
"Y'know my whole fucking family just died, so.. that would be nice." She stated, taking a drink while she dangled the cigarette in between her fingers.
"What?" He says, confused.
She pursed her lips, letting awkwardness assume it's position as they both sat quietly. She spotted Miguel as he pushed the door open, entering the bar. "Time to go." She said, getting up and holding the cigarette between her teeth.
"Wait," He grabs her arm, "Aren't we gonna talk? I did just buy you all those drinks and let you take a cigarette." He stated aggressively.
She took the cigarette from in between her teeth and held it while she stood on one hip."Are you kidding me? I was using you to get free stuff, bye now." He stood up, pulling her by her arm.
"You can't drive, let me take you home." By the time he said this, Miguel had already made his way over towards the two.
"I'll take her, thanks." Miguel says, grabbing her by her arm softly.
"Who are you?" He grabs Y/n again, attempting to pull her from him. However, Miguel puts out his arm, pushing him slightly so he stumbles back. The man regains his footing, anger rising in him as he charges at Miguel and attempts to push him back, but Miguel barely budges.
