44 | Family

Komaeda placed plates on the table. He could hear Hinata and Kenichi laughing in the little boy's room. He smiled softly.

Hinata was holding Kenichi up and the boy pretended to be crawling on the wall like Spider-Man.

"Now I wanna swing to that wall!" He pointed across the room. Hinata first lowered him and then lifted him up again, as if he was actually swinging on a web.

A few minutes later, Hinata gave Kenichi some clothes to change into. He left the room and Kenichi eventually came out, wearing the clothes.

The two guys went into the kitchen and sat down at the table.

"Good morning, Kenichi," Komaeda said, patting his head.

"Morning, papa!" He smiled and grabbed a spoon to eat some yogurt. Komaeda placed a cup of orange juice in front of him.

The family ate together. One chair was taken up by Kenichi's teddy bear.

"It's a pretty hot day today," Hinata began. "Kenichi, do you know how to swim?"

"Mhm! I learned it in school." He nodded.

"I could set up the pool for you, if you want,"

"Pool??"

"Yeah, we bought one for you," Hinata explained.

"Thank you thank you thank you!" Kenichi exclaimed.

An hour later, the little boy was standing in the pool. The water went up to his chest, so it wasn't big enough for an adult to swim in, but he could. He was playing with a few boats as Hinata mowed the lawn. Suddenly, Komaeda hurried into the garden.

"Kenichi! Do you want ice cream? The ice cream truck is close right now!"

"Yes!" He said, smiling. Komaeda lifted him out of a pool and wrapped him in a towel. He put on flip flops and they hurried outside towards the street.

Luckily, the caught the truck in time and Kenichi picked chocolate ice cream. They went back into the garden where Hinata was now putting the lawn mower away.

Kenichi put down the towel and sat down on it, happily eating his ice cream. Hinata smiled brightly. His son was happy. He was enjoying life and didn't have to worry about anything.

A week later, Hinata was sitting in his office, working. His break would start in only a few minutes.

Komaeda and Kenichi left the school. The pale man was Kenichi's teacher and today school had ended early. They decided to pay Hinata a surprise visit during his lunch break.

"Daddy is a lawyer, right?"

"Yes, he is," Komaeda said, beginning to drive.

"What do lawyers do?"

"They defend people who were accused of - or committed -  a crime,"

"So they fight the police?"

Komaeda chuckled. "No, they go to court and then defend their client with words. Ah, court is when-"

"I know what court is," Kenichi said. "My real daddy was there because... he did stuff that wasn't right,"

Komaeda rubbed his shoulder. "We're almost there,"

A few minutes later, they arrived and rang the doorbell to his office building. Hinata opened the door, surprised.

"Hey, babe." He kissed him. "Why are you guys here? Did something happen?"

"Papa wanted to surprise you!" Kenichi told him, hugging his leg. Hinata pat his head.

"I see. Well, it's a nice surprise. Come in." He stepped aside so they could get through.

Hinata brought them into a room where his desk stood. There was also a couch and a painting on the wall.

"I'm glad you guys came. I really need some distraction, I'm... working on a pretty difficult case at the moment,"

"You are? What's it about?" Komaeda asked.

"I..." he looked down at Kenichi. "I'll tell you later,"

The little boy was currently climbing onto his desk. Hinata picked him up and put him on the couch. "Daddy, I got a good test back!"

"That's awesome, buddy." Hinata grinned.

"And papa told me you go to court as a job. So-" he reached into his backpack. "-here!" He handed him his beloved teddy bear. "I want you to have it as a lucky charm,"

Hinata chuckled. "Thank you, but the trial is in three days. Keep it until then, okay?"

"Okay! Papa, can you remind me to give him meepmeep?"

"Of course!"
