Nightmares

Charlie was shaking like a leaf in nicks arms all the way home. Nick had no idea what to do so he sat down on the sofa with Charlie in his lap.

Being back in a safe space calmed Charlie He lifted his face from where it had been buried in Nicks shoulder but sprang back curling up in the corner of the sofa looking stunned.

Nick suddenly realised his fangs were out, his rage towards ben was still coursing through his veins. Nick forced himself to calm down and retract his fangs.

All of a sudden Charlie was smiling through the tears.

"What?" Nick asked, he found himself reciprocating the smile.

 "That's not the first time Ben threatened to kill me, but it is the first time anyone has stood up for me." Charlie explained.

Charlie recovered from the incident faster than nick, probably because it wasn't his first life threatening experience with a vampire. Or at least nick thought Charlie had recovered.

That night nick lay awake in his bed, as he developed into a vampire he found he was sleeping less and less, especially at night. Most of the teachers and older students slept for an hour or two during the day and stayed up all night.

As nick was contemplating weather to get up he heard sounds of distress coming for Charlies room. Nick was out of bed and across the apartment in two seconds, finding a delirious and terrified Charlie.

Even after Charlie had woken and steadied his breathing he was unable to speak. 'I'm so sorry it was a nightmare about Ben' he typed out on his phone.

"you have nothing to be sorry about." Nick told him. "Now is there anything I can get you? Tea? hot chocolate?"

Charlie shook his head, looking embarrassed to have caused a fuss.

Nick went back to his room but an hour later there was a knock that was so quiet nick wouldn't have heard it if he wasn't a vampire. He found Charlie standing outside holding his blanket and a pillow.

"I cant sleep" Charlie whispered. "Every second I'm terrified Ben is going to come through the door. Every time I close my eyes he's there."

"You can sleep in my room." Nick offered.

"Thankyou; you wont even know I'm there."

Nick gestured for Charlie to come in, but he started to settle down on the floor. "You can come up here if you want." Nick offered.

So Charlie got into bed beside nick and fell asleep immediately. He was exhausted and now he was beside someone who would protect him his mind finally relaxed.

The next few days Nick offered Charlie the same option and each time he accepted. So sleeping in the same bed just became routine. They both needed the warm feeling it gave them, trapped in a cruel twisted world the two of them had found comfort.

Neither of them said anything when they woke up in each others arms, neither of them pulled away. So they started snuggling together when they got into bed and cuddling while watching movies together. It just became a normal, casual part of their relationship.

At first nick was worried physical contact from a vampire would freak Charlie out. But it had the opposite effect, the two of them craved the intimacy.
