Nick was too shocked to react. The prefect just kept talking, talking about the person like it was an appliance. Just another part of the tour, another thing to explain.

"He's yours. A human to practice feeding on, your blood bag to snack on, your servant to clean up after you. Whatever you want." The prefect was mildly surprised by nicks shock. "Guess your dad forgot to tell you.

Before you ask not having him isn't an option. Vamps get bloodlust episodes, when you're young you can't control it. You need someone to feed on, its school policy to have a blood bag in every students apartment so they don't go on a rampage and kill one of the thralls. As for why it's a boy, its about hormones. If you fed on girls you'd consume oestrogen. So its best for male vampires to stick to male blood. "

The prefect also explained why the blood bags didn't run. There was a tracking device embedded in the base of their scull, it could also be used to paralyse, kill or inflict great pain. But the device was hardly necessary, they couldn't escape the island, even if one grabbed a weapon and attacked their master the vampire could kill them as easily as crumpling a coke can.

The prefect also eluded to some sort of training and from the boys terrified body language nick guessed he had been threatened and tortured to make him compliant, more afraid of the punishment for disobedience than death.

Nick was told he could kill it if he wanted, the school would replace it, there was no shortage of people, plenty of kids on the streets who wouldn't be missed.

Nick had been given a new phone and there was an app connected to the implant in the boys spine. It had various controls but one was a GPS locator. If the boy left nicks apartment and wasn't within five meters of nick his nervous system would be automatically shocked.

After the prefect left nick stood frozen, trying to process this new reality, he felt sick to his stomach, there was a person held captive in his room. A kid he was expected to feed on. A kid who was being treated like property. Nick returned to the door of the room, compelled by his empathy to check this boy was ok.

The dark haired boy hadn't moved from his position on the bed, curled up in the corner with the blanket drawn around him, hands over his face, a pair of terrified eyes peeking out between the fingers.

Nick noticed more of the room the second time he looked in. It was tiny, it looked like a prison cell with grey walls, a metal bed, a metal toilet bolted to the floor and a tiny shower. Nick also noticed that the door to the room locked from the outside.

"I'm not going to hurt you." Nick blurted out. "I know how that sounds and you probably don't believe me right now, but I won't. I won't touch you. I don't care what they told you I'm not going to feed on you."

Nick didn't get a response, the boy didn't say anything, he didn't move an inch, he barely breathed. Was he terrified? Surprised? Confused?

"I guess I should probably" Nick backed away deciding to give him some space and time. "Door open or closed?" Nick didn't get a response so decided to leave it ajar. Nick thought it was a good compromise, closed and he would feel locked in, wide open and he might feel vulnerable.

Nick spent the next hour pacing about his apartment trying to think of a way out of the situation. But there wasn't one. He couldn't leave Dracula or they would kill his mum. He couldn't get the device out of the boys neck without help from a surgeon and a bomb disposal expert.

There was also the problem that Dracula was watching him extremely closely, they were a secret society that had capability's exceeding most intelligence agencies. They watched everyone, especially their own members. He was guessing they hadn't bugged his room, but the rest of the school probably was, not to mention all the teachers and other students would be watching him.

Nick wondered if the boy was hungry and went to his kitchen. There was a large tub of powder, the label said it was for the blood bag. It was mixed with water to create a protein shake that gave them everything they needed to stay healthy so they could provide blood to their vampire.

Nick tossed it in the bin in disgust. The cupboards and fridge had been stocked in preparation for his arrival with both normal food and some products containing blood.

They boy flinched when nick knocked then opened the door holding a tray of food.

"Are you hungry?" nick asked. The boy shook his head almost imperceptibly, but nick decided to leave the food anyway. He was careful not to get too close.

"I'm nick. What's your name?" He asked.

The boy didn't speak, instead he pulled off a necklace and tossed it to nick. On the end of the thin chain was a metal disk stamped with writing.

Underneath was the number to the phone the school had given nick.

Nick reacted in disgust, moving to throw it out. But Charlie sensed what he was doing and his hand shot out, a panicked expression of his face.

"They make you wear this?" Nick guessed there was a punishment for losing it. Charlie nodded. Nick had no choice but to return the tag.

"Can I ask you some questions?"

Charlie nodded. He seemed wary of nick, but there was a glimmer of cautious trust. Nick hadn't fed on him, nick had shown him kindness.

"Did they take your voice?" nick asked. So far Charlie hadn't said a word or even made a sound.

Charlie shook his head. Then reconsidered, giving a 'sort of' indication.

Nick grabbed a pen and paper for him. He tossed them onto the bed, still not wanting to freak Charlie out by getting close enough to pass stuff.

Charlie wrote. 'They shocked us when we spoke out of turn'

"I'm so sorry for what they did to you." Nick was disgusted and horrified to the core of his soul. How could anyone do something like that to someone so innocent and helpless?

"Charlie I'm going to find a way to get you out of here." Nick promised. "I would help you escape the island right now if it wouldn't detonate the bomb in your neck. If they wouldn't kill my mum for letting you go."

After a moment of silence nick asked. "Is there anything I can do for you right now?"

Charlie shrugged and nick noticed the clothe she was wearing, grey scrubs like you might give to a prisoner or a nurse. Something cheap you didn't bother washing if it got stained with blood. Clothes as disposable to Dracula as the person wearing them.

"You can borrow some of my clothes till I can get you some of your own." Nick decided. He fetched Charlie a grey tracksuit and a green hoody. Charlie hugged them close, tears forming, they were probably the first token of kindness he had received in months.

A knock at the door shattered the moment. Charlie looked at nick, the terror that had briefly receded was back. Nick also felt a flash of panic, what if they had bugged his place and discovered his disloyalty?
