chapter fifteen:
adiós por ahora
[goodbye, for now]
└── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──┘

YOU CALLED DIEGO to tell him the news.

"que paso?" diego opened up. you smiled even though he could only hear your voice. "hi diego. guess what happened at work?"

diego gasped, "did vivianna meet peso pluma?"

you chuckled lightly at his guess, "funny, but no."

diego smiled as his curiosity grew, "what happened?"

you sighed, "i hope you can process this information, but i'm moving to new york city soon."

"you're what?" he gasped, but in a way that he squealed at the end.

"sorry it's so sudden. bianca and the louis vuitton team thought i'd be better working at their headquarters located in new york city. it's for my safety, they said. so i've decided to work all the way in new york." you let out an awkward laugh at the end.

diego, on the other hand, believed that you made it big time. "y/n, that's amazing!" he exclaimed.

you tilted your head side to side, showing a face of uncertainty. "yeah it's amazing, but i'm going to a whole different country." your voice softens.

"long distance or not, you know i'm still going to be there."

"i know, but still. i'm going to see you even less!"

"you're saying that as if i'm not playing in the states soon."

"wait what?"

"i'm going to be playing in california, texas, and nevada."

"that's not making me feel better diego. where's new york at?"

"girl, i'm not the one who gets to pick what location we play in."

"i know, but i'm really going to miss seeing you in person everyday."

"i'm hoping you'll come to see me in one of the games."

"and i better see you climbing up those new york stairs and knock on my apartment soon."

"i will. love you."

"love you too. but in all seriousness, did you just 'girl' me?"

"maybe."

you ringed on the doorbell of vivianna's house. you also brought in your dogs for a goodbye. it was a good run between you two, but now brings in a new era for you.

"hi y/n!" vivianna hugged you and greeted your dogs.

"hi vivianna. i'm not asking you to babysit my dogs this time, but me and them are here to say goodbye to you."

"goodbye? y/n, are you telling me...you told bianca you're going to work out of the country?"

"yep, and these babies are coming with me, right guys?" you asked your dogs in a baby voice.

vivianna squat down to where she can face your dogs properly. similar to your current tone, she begins speaking to them, "i'm really going to miss you guys. why leave so soon?"

you repeated what bianca told you the other day, "it's for my safety."

"can i be honest with you y/n?" vivianna lifts her head where she makes contact with you.

"go ahead."

"bianca was a little delusional for that. i mean, diego isn't recognized like that in other places, or am i wrong? but anyway, does she really think he's a top dog worldwide? i mean compare his status to austin butler's."

"and why would a football player impersonate elvis?"

"what?"

"what? anyway, your point is?"

"okay, forget the austin butler comparison." vivianna laughed. "what i mean is that, while diego's fame is not universal, he is well-known in specific circles. and let's be honest: new york is pretty safe."

you nodded, knowing what she was saying. "i understand, but i assume bianca wants to be extra cautious. she has always been like that."

"well, i'll miss you," vivianna replied, hugging you. "and i'll miss these little troublemakers, too," she said, rubbing your dogs behind the ears.

you packed the last few items into your suitcase before shutting it. you had already decided to leave the country and relocate to new york city in a few weeks. you had found a comfortable apartment near where it is located near your job.

as you looked around your now-mostly empty home, you were overcome with nostalgia. this location holds both good and sad memories, but a new phase in your life was about to blossom.

you took one more look around before taking your suitcase and leaving. the next time you entered this home, it would be as a visitor, recalling your time here prior to your important relocation. you took a deep breath and locked the door behind you, excited to begin your new journey in new york city.

walking to the airport, the weight of your decision grew with each step. your heart was divided between enthusiasm for the new beginnings in the city and sadness for leaving the life you had created here, specifically your love life. you couldn't help but reflect on all the memories you'd made in this city—late-night dinners with vivianna, lazy sunday mornings in bed, and peaceful moments alone in your home.

arriving at the airport, the bustling crowd just added to your perplexity until you saw him. you didn't expect him, but there he was. diego, who standing at the check-in counters, with another plush for you before you leave the country.

your heart skipped a beat as you dashed over to him, clutching your luggage behind you. When you arrived to him, you didn't hesitate to wrap your arms around him, clinging to him like he was a lifeline.

diego firmly placed his arms around you, keeping you tight. "I'm going to miss you so much," he whispered quietly, his voice full of desire.

all of a sudden, it begins to hit for you.

"this is really it," tears welled in your eyes as you gripped to him, refusing to let go. "i'm going to miss you, too," you managed to say, your voice cracking.

diego leaned back slightly, his hands caressing your face as he looked into your eyes, "trust me, you will thrive even more in new york than in here."

you let go with one final lingering hug, wiping away your tears as you turned to head to the check-in counter. as you left, you couldn't help but peek back one last time to see diego standing there, watching you go with a bittersweet smile.

as you walked through security and to your gate, you couldn't shake the sadness that lingered in your heart. the reality of losing everything you knew began to set in, and you couldn't help but feel sad.

however, once you snuggled into your seat on the plane, your thoughts turned to the opportunities that awaited you in new york city. you begin taking acceptance about your new job, the new apartment, and the new life that awaited you there.
