Carter's POV

"Mom you didn't have to come. I would have handled it." I whine.

"By handling it you mean calling your mother and asking her to help you. You need to apologize for once."

I throw my head down and keep following her to the Deans office, "That's not what I mean."

"Honey your mom has been covering for you and Olivia since you guys were kids."

I groan, "You're acting like I'm a child."

We walk to the secretary and she looks back at me, "I'm just trying to help."

"Let's just get this over with."

She turns back around, "We're here to see the Dean please."

"What's your name?" The secretary asks.

"Avery Woods." The secretary looks up and eyes mom head to toe which makes me frown.

"Your wife lets you out the house like that?" The secretary asks making my eyes widen.

I look at mom and her reaction is not like mine at all. She calmly leans forward, "Like what exactly?"

"You know showing off everything."

Just as I'm about to step forward and tell this woman to shut up mom stops me.

"My wife isn't the boss of me." She replies. What the hell is wrong with this secretary.

"I know the donations she makes to the school. I wonder what she gets out of being married to someone like you."

Mom smiles, "Trust me she gets a lot out of it. Now can you please go get the Dean."

The secretary rolls her eyes and gets up and goes towards the Deans office. Mom turns around and looks at me, "Why did you let her talk to you like that?"

She cups my face and smiles, "Honey don't be upset. This wasn't the first time this has happened and it won't be the last either. Perks of being married to a millionaire."

I frown, "You work too though. Just as hard as Mama."

"I know but people don't understand that. They think I only married her for her money."

"That's bullshit."

She lets go of my face, "Language Carter. It's okay I don't mind."

"But Mom if you let them talk to you like this they always will. Does Mama know?"

The Dean walks out of his office and interrupts our conversation, "I can see you in my office Mrs.Woods. I would like to speak with you alone it won't take more than a couple of minutes."

Mom nods and follows him inside. I sit on the chair and glare at the secretary. You just watch I will get you back for speaking to my mom that way.

If only she knew who's wife she spoke that way to. Mama would be so furious if she knew so I'm guessing Mom doesn't tell her what people are saying. Mom would still be married to Mama even if she wasn't a millionaire and didn't have any money. That's how much she loves her.

"Carter, what are you doing here?" I hear her beautiful voice. I bite my lip not to smile and I turn my head towards her.

"I may or may not have love bumped someones car in the parking lot professor so my mom is talking to the Dean."

She shakes her head and sits down next to me, "Is that why you look sad and mad at the same time?"

"I'm not sad." I lie. She raises one of her eyebrows and I gulp.

"Okay okay the secretary basically called my mom a whore and a gold digger." I whisper to her.

She immediately looks towards the secretary and then looks back at me, "I'll be right back."

I don't even have time to respond to her because she gets up and goes towards the secretary's desk.

"Hey Shannon." The lady looks up smiling at her.

"Professor Valdez, what can I do for you?"

"Sorry I always forget remind me again was it your first husband that cheated on you or your second?" She asks very loudly, "Oh wait it was both of them."

I can't help but chuckle as Riley makes her way back to me without saying anything else. She sits down next to me and I turn my head, "That was hot."

She smiles, "Keep it in your pants Carter."

I laugh and look down but my eyes immediately look at her hand.

"Why is there a bandit on your finger?"

"I don't know why don't you ask the very amazing turtle that you got."

I look at her shocked, "He bit you?"

She nods, "I might have provoked him but yes."

"Well don't provoke him next time. How's Maya by the way? Is she doing better?"

"She's just a little under the weather but she's good."

"Should I get her another gift then?" I tease and she immediately shakes her head.

"Nope keep your gifts to yourself."

I go to respond to her but the door to the Deans office opens and my mom walks out alone. I stand up and she walks towards me.

"So? Is everything okay?"

"Yeah honey. The Dean and I came to an agreement. You pay for the damages out of your own pocket and we're all good."

My mouth falls open, "We're all good? You call that good mom?"

She smiles, "Let this be a lesson to not hit someones car because they called you a name. You have to learn to control yourself. " Mom looks to my right and I remember that Riley is still here.

"Oh Mom this is Professor Valdez, she teaches my psychology class."

Mom reaches her hand out and Riley shakes it, "Nice to meet you. I hope Carter doesn't give you a lot of trouble in class."

"She doesn't, she's always listening."

Mom looks at me surprised, "Well that's a first."

"Mom don't embarrass me." I whine and she chuckles.

"Okay sorry you don't have any classes today right?"

"No we can leave together."

"Okay then. It was nice meeting you again and if Carter gives you any trouble you just call me." Riley laughs and nods causing me to groan.

"Vieni al club più tardi stasera." I tell Riley in Italian. Again me speaking Italian seems to surprised her for the second time but she slowly nods her head.

Mom gives me a questionable look but I gently push her to start walking and wave goodbye to Riley. I probably have to explain to Mom why I just spoke Italian to my teacher but I don't care about that right now. All I'm thinking about is that I get to see her tonight.

"She looks young." Mom says as we're walking out.

"I think she is." I reply, "She just moved here."

"Why was she wearing a long sleeve? It's really hot nowadays." She is right I've never seen Riley without long sleeves. Every day she wears a long sleeve blouse.

I shrug, "I don't know maybe she gets cold easily."

"It was a nice blouse. I liked the color."

"Really?" I ask. For some reason I don't remember what the color of her shirt was.

Mom chuckles, "You wouldn't know you were too busy staring at her other regions."

I feel my cheeks heat up immediately, "No I wasn't. Come on let's get out of here."

She nods and drops the subject as we walk out. How am I supposed to keep my eyes off of that woman when she always looks so good. Every single thing about her is perfect.

Underneath those clothes everything is also going to be perfect.
