"May I ask what happened to her?"
There was a bit of silence, then a low sigh, "I'm not entirely sure myself. All I know is the hunter's her mother and has done vile things. I've been trying to be as patient and as gentle as possible, but I don't think I'm trying hard enough and I don't know what else to do. I don't want her afraid of me, Wayne. This is one of the hardest things I've ever faced."
"I'm very sorry, sir. From what I've seen the Luna has been through things I wouldn't wish upon any rogue. Her vocal chords are severely damaged, and there are many other things I do not wish to get into detail as of right now, but recovery for things like this take time. Besides, I believe you're doing perfect considering the circumstances. I've noticed she tries to say your name whenever there's obvious signs of discomfort, so that's progress already. She's doing very well for someone in her condition."
"I hope so," a low growl-like noise vibrated through the door, "it's just so difficult keeping my calm in front of her. I can hardly be around her because seeing all those markings on her skin makes me so fucking angry, yet at the same time I want to hold her so she knows it's going to be okay. I don't want her to see the other side of me because it'll scare her, but I want her to know who I am. I'm just so stuck."
"I understand, sir," there was a pause, "she will soon see just how far you'll go for her, all it takes is patience. Love her at her worst and she'll love you at her best."
There was another pause of silence just before the door opened and I closed my eyes, slight panic consuming me at the sound of footsteps nearing the bedside. I clenched my eyelids and went tense, feeling a warm hand find mine with familiar tingles following a few seconds later.
"Angel?"
I reopened my eyes in surprise, my gaze landing on Axel and relief lifted a huge weight off my body. I didn't know he was here. The two male voices outside the door sounded nothing like his, they were stern and bitter while his is gentle and calming.
"Are you feeling any better?" He added. I stared at our touching hands with a tiny nod, though another hand touched my other arm and I jumped, the previous terror I felt now resettling in my gut.
I jolted away and grabbed onto Axel, shaking my head frantically at the man in a white trench coat. Jade always said they're out to hurt me because they get money from it, that they're greedy and have no regard for anyone's wellness.
"Wayne," Axel said in a voice I've never heard before and I let him go to hug myself, disliking his tone that resembled the men in the hall. It gave me chills, the same ones my mother created, and I instantly began questioning if his kindness was a facade.
"Alpha," the man replied in a much lighter tone, slightly lowering his head. I frowned with furrowing brows, my eyes darting between their bodies to make sure neither of them tried to grab me.
More confusion whirled around my head the more I thought about what just happened until a sudden memory hit me.

"There's a world out there you never would've known existed if I didn't tell you, Angelica, and it's amazing. One day, I will take you and we can see the beauty of it together. Would you want to see the doggies with me?"
"Yes, daddy! I want to go!" I giggled, pointing out the window toward the trees with a grin where rabbits hopped along, "I love animals!"
"I know, honey," he chuckled, ruffling my hair with a crooked smile.
"But wait, are the doggies special if they live in a different world than us?" I frowned in confusion, scrunching my eyebrows and looking up at him. His smile never faltered while he knelt down to my level and pinched the fat on my cheek, making me giggle.
