Chapter 12

Allura's POV

Pidge and I wasted no time to sure for our sister. We rode off to the stronghold on the last standing space station, the Garrison, that can lead ships to the Balmera. Even as we arrived at the burning and nearly all beaten and broken down strong-hold prepared, I could never have imagined the strong-hold was reduced to such sites. 

I expected the zombies to have whittled the Garrison numbers and for the base to be struggling, but I didn't expect to see the whole station enclosed off, every building and door shut, locking remnants of the zombies inside the station as many attempted to clear the runways for evacuations from the station. It was all lost. 

"Allura, how do we find Mr. Kogane in this mess?" Pidge asked. 

"We split up and search." I replied as I pulled the horse to a stop and we got off. "We must hurry if we are to leave before those zombies break through." I told her. 

We must hurry.

Pidge's POV

I took off behind the Garrison, patrolling between the canyons behind it and the locked doors hoping to find Mr. Kogane and praying Romelle wasn't one of those zombies trying to tear through the doors or windows. 

However, it was a man in distress that caught my attention. I could hear fearful grunts and yelps as the moan of zombies grew louder. 

I raced towards those noise to find Mr. McClain caught in the hands of a zombie. More so the zombie pulling at his jacket he wore as he struggled to get free from that zombie's grasp. Without hesitation, I ran forward with nothing but my small dagger as I began hacking away at the forearm of the zombie to free Mr. McClain. I didn't stop, not until the bone was seperated and the arm torn and Mr. McClain was free from harm.

It was when Mr. McClain removed the zombie arm from his sleeve that he faced me.

"You could have been killed." He replied.

"So could've you." I replied.

Mr. McClain shook his head before interrogating me with questions.

"What are you doing here, Miss Holt? You must evacuate."

"I can't. My sister has run off."

"Which one?" Mr. McClain asked, "Perhaps she is with Mr. Kogane."

"Not Allura. I mean our younger sister Romelle. She's run off with Lotor." I explained. 

Mr. McClain's widened expression and sense of worry that washed over him said he knew more about why she is in danger. 

Allura didn't tell me much, only that Mr. Kogane went through a similar run in with his sister and Lotor. She didn't provide any details or what the explanation or cause for it was, only that Romelle isn't safe. Based on Mr. McClain's expression, it seems Mr. Kogane shared this information with him.

"We must find Keith immediately." He said as he took my hand as pulled back the way I came. "Where is your other sister?" He asked.

"She stayed in the front to look for-"

"Keith!" Mr. McClain said. I turned ahead and spotted Allura approaching with Mr. Kogane. 

Allura didn't seem to hate him much and she rather seemed to be closer to him than previously. 

"Their sister is off with Lotor." Mr. McClain explained. 

"So, I've heard." He replied as he looked back at the last three remaining ships that were preparing to leave. "Lance, you and the Holts remain here. I'll go after Lotor."

"I'm coming with you." Allura said. 

"Allura you can't." I replied.

"I know where Lotor would have taken her. I have to go." Allura reasoned as she faced Mr. Kogane. Mr. Kogane didn't give much away as he faced Mr. McClain.

"You remain here with Miss Holt. There are only three remaining ships left at this station to leave. We must blow this station as the third ship is cleared. Wait until the third ship if ready for departure, if we are not back...blow it."

"Without you?"

"You're not the one being left behind." Mr. Kogane joked...I think. "We should be back by then, but if we aren't blow it. You must for the greater good of humanity. Understood." Mr. Kogane said as he handed the timer over to Mr. McClain.

"Understood." he replied as I faced Allura. 

"You better come back." I told her.

"I intend to." She added as we hugged. She then climbed onto Mr. Kogane's horse as they rod off away from the garrison.
