Logan's POV
"I just want to go home, Logan!" DJ exclaimed with frustration, his voice echoing through the walls of the loser cabin. Team Chris sat across from us, oblivious to our conversation. "Lindsay should be sitting here, and I should be in Mama's warm embrace."
For the past hour, I had been desperately trying to convince DJ to stay in the game. We were about to arrive to the next location, and it was just the two of us left against Team Chris and Team Amazon.
My desire to make it further in the game clashed with my reluctance to leave DJ behind. It felt like I had to fend for myself, and it weighed heavily on me.
"But Mama would want you to keep going, right?" I pleaded with DJ, placing my hand gently on his lap. "You have the chance to win the million and buy her a new bus. Wouldn't that make her proud?"
"Yeah, but I don't know what to do about this stupid animal curse. Who knows what's next? You might get eliminated unless you switch teams!" DJ responded, his voice laced with doubt.
Annoyance coursed through me as I mentally sighed. DJ's curse had to be some kind of hoax; I refused to believe it was real.
"DJ, we've faced challenges together throughout the seasons, and we have come out on top plenty of times," I said, trying to inject some optimism into my voice. "Remember Peru? We were outnumbered, but we still won. We can do it again. We just have to stick together."
"But what if we both go home in the next episode?"
Comforting others had always come naturally to me, but this season had taken its toll. DJ had become stubborn due to his cursed predicament, and I had grown even more obstinate because of everything that had transpired with Duncan. Maintaining a positive attitude and pushing through had become increasingly challenging.
"I don't know what to say to DJ. I've always been the one forming alliances, not the one being approached," I overheard Owen saying to his team. "If we get DJ on our side, Logan is sure to follow, right?"
"It's like asking a girl out," Noah responded sarcastically. I felt the weight of their gaze on me as DJ and I sat in silence.
Suddenly, Owen cleared his throat, causing both DJ and I to look up from our laps. "Uh, hey DJ! Hey. Uh, you wanna go for hot dogs with my buddy, Noah? He said your legs are nice."
Owen whistled, eliciting a disgusted expression from DJ. My eyes widened as I glanced at Noah, curious about his involvement.
"Yeah, because that's exactly what I told him to say," Noah muttered, shooting an embarrassed glare at Owen.
"One cannot stumble into an alliance, my friends," Alejandro chimed in, standing next to Noah.
Tyler abruptly jumped out of his seat and marched towards DJ, his voice filled with anger. "Why couldn't you have lost so Lindsay could still be here!?"
I quickly intervened, stepping in between Tyler and DJ. "Woah, Tyler," I said, my voice filled with concern. This outburst was uncharacteristic of him, and it took me by surprise.
"Anger doesn't help either," Alejandro added, his voice calm and collected.
"Listen, I'm sorry. I tried, okay? But you only have to put up with me for one more day," DJ asserted, attempting to reassure us. Without thinking, I smacked his arm.
"DJ," I warned, narrowing my eyes. There was no way I would allow him to leave the next challenge. We still had a fighting chance.
"Going somewhere, DJ?" Alejandro asked, his voice laced with curiosity.
