Dustin Henderson, Lucas Sinclair, and Mike Wheeler bring the bald girl to Mike's house after finding her in the woods. They find that she has a strange understanding of social norms, not bothering to go somewhere private to change clothes when Mike gives her something to wear, the boys stopping her before she can undress. Mike shows her to a bathroom, where she insists on not closing the door fully. Lucas is mistrustful, theorizing she could be an escapee from a nearby asylum.

Lucas and Dustin want to tell Karen Wheeler, but Mike reminds them they were not supposed to be out after dark and that they will all get in trouble.
He plans to have her as a missing child that stumbled upon the house for his mother, who will call Social Services. After Lucas and Dustin leave, Mike sets up a blanket fort for her to sleep in, and she shows him her tattoo that reads "011" when he asks for her name. When he mentions his name is short for Michael, he decides to call her "El", short for "Eleven". They say good night to each other, and Eleven falls asleep, despite the storm.

The next morning, Jim Hopper arrives at the Byers house to inform Joyce Byers they have not yet found her son. She shows him her fried phone, which Hopper attributes to the storm, despite Joyce's insistence that Will was on the other end. Having not heard from her ex-husband, Hopper decides to go and talk to him himself. Jonathan offers to go in Hopper's place, but Hopper orders him to stay and support his mother.
"Hopper wait!" Y/n calls out running outside to his truck where he's standing.
"Please find my brother" Y/n says with tears in her eyes looking at Hopper pleading.
"We'll find him" Hopper says looking at the upset girl in front of him.

Mike takes an extra Eggo waffle for Eleven for breakfast and tells her about his plan to get her back home safely. Eleven refuses, insisting that "bad" people are looking for her that are willing to kill him.

Martin Brenner listens to a recording of Joyce calling the police, insisting that Will was on the other end. The manhunt for Will continues, and Hopper tells Calvin Powell off when he cracks a joke about Joyce's eccentricity. Phil Callahan jokingly asks if she and Hopper have had relations before, and Powell smirks knowingly.

Steve asks Nancy to go to a party which Barb scoffs at quietly knowing the people Steve hangs out with Tommy and Carol. The group notice Jonathan putting up missing posters for Will.
"Oh god look" Carol says looking at Jonathan.
"Oh god that's depressing" Steve says looking too.
"Should we say something?" Nancy asks.
"I don't think he speaks" Carol says.
"How much you wanna bet he killed him?" Tommy asks Steve.
"Shut up" Steve says laughing pushing Tommy's shoulder.
Y/n walks over to Jonathan taking a pile of posters in her hands.
"Of course wherever he is his little sister is" Carol says looking at Y/n scoffing.
"She's hot at least" Tommy says looking Y/n up and down.
Carol looks at Tommy coldly scoffing at him looking at Jonathan and Y/n again.
Nancy walks over to Jonathan and Y/n talking to them.
"Guys not her" Steve says to Tommy and Carol looking at Y/n.
"Why got a soft spot for her?" Tommy asks laughing.
"She's Nancy's best friend alright leave her out of it" Steve says seriously.
"Fine alright whatever you say Harrington" Tommy says smirking.
Steve watches Y/n closely seeing her usually happy expression change to a depressed one.

Y/n and Nancy hug before Nancy walks back over to the group when the bell rings.
Y/n walks in a different direction going to her class.
Jonathan walks out of the front door of the school.

Y/n sits in class zoned out not listening to the teacher like she usually does. Steve sits two rows in front of her turning around to look at her making sure she's okay. He sees Y/n zoned out with tears in her eyes. Y/n gets up abruptly walking out of the class as her teacher calls to her.
Y/n gets a flashback of her and Will.

Flashback:

"Hey buddy what are you doing?" Y/n asks walking into Will's room.
"Drawing" Will says continuing to draw.
Y/n looks at the drawing that's of Will and Y/n fighting a battle against a giant monster.
"That's really good Will" Y/n says crouching beside Will's chair looking at the drawing.
"Do you think I'll ever be as good as you at drawing?" Will asks looking at her smiling.
"Will you're already there, if you keep drawing like this you'll be better than me" Y/n says laughing messing up his hair.
"But you do have to go to bed" Y/n says standing up waking over to Will's bed.
Will gets up walking over to his bed getting into it laying down.
"Goodnight I love you" Y/n says shutting off Will's bedroom light.
"Goodnight love you too" Will says getting comfortable.
