Chapter Nine: The Gate

Eleven and Mike embrace, reunited after almost a year. He tells her that he called every night, and she admits that she knew, Hopper explaining that he had been hiding her the whole time. She and Hopper hug until Mike, enraged, confronts him over hiding her.
Eleven runs to Y/n hugging her tightly.
"Hey are you okay?" Y/n asks her concerned checking for any injuries.
"I'm okay, I missed you" Eleven says smiling.
"I missed to you too El" Y/n says smiling.
Mike shouts at Hopper in a back bedroom, venting his rage until he calms, understanding why Hopper hid her. Eleven hugs Dustin and Lucas, but coldly brushes off Max when she tries to greet her.
"Don't worry she'll warm up to you" Y/n says smiling reassuringly at Max.
Max smiles back shrugging.
Eleven also hugs Joyce and looks at the unconscious Will and confirms that she is capable of closing the gate.

Billy goes to the Wheeler house looking for Max and casually flirts with Karen Wheeler, who informs him that the kids are likely at the Byers'.
The group lays out their plan: Eleven and Hopper will go to the gate to close it, but only after Joyce, Jonathan and Nancy extract the Mind Flayer from Will, as closing the gate could kill him while the Mind Flayer is connected to him. Joyce remembers Will saying the Mind Flayer "likes it cold," and concludes that they need to overheat him to get it out. Hopper tells them to use his cabin so Will cannot draw the demodogs to them by recognizing where he is.

Steve is outside looking for a heater with Nancy.
He sighs looking at Y/n who's smiling talking to Hopper hugging him.
"You're in love" Nancy says smirking at Steve.
Steve whips his head to Nancy shaking his head no but Nancy raises her eyebrows causing Steve to sigh defeated.
"Yeah I am but she doesn't notice" Steve says sadly.
"She's my best friend I've known her for years and I can tell you that when it comes to boys and relationship stuff..she wouldn't notice if it was right in front of her face" Nancy says chuckling at how clueless her best friend can really be.
"Yeah?" Steve asks nervously.
"Steve it's not you, she just isn't used to it" Nancy says smiling reassuringly.
"I'm sorry" Steve says sadly.
"For what?" Nancy asks confused.
"For everything I did, for being a shitty boyfriend" Steve says shrugging sadly.
"Thanks, we just didn't work but I know you and Y/n will" Nancy says smiling walking away leaving Steve to think.
Meanwhile, Eleven promises Mike that she will come back, but is interrupted by Hopper before they can kiss.

Eleven explains to Hopper that she saw Terry Ives, and Hopper apologizes to her for lying about her mother. He expresses that he feels like a black hole that destroys everything it gets close to, and that is what he feels happened to his daughter. Eleven is surprised to find out Hopper has a daughter, but Hopper clarifies that Sara died by saying "She left us." Eleven takes his hand, and they both acknowledge they have acted irresponsibly. He compliments her new look, which Eleven refers to as "bitchin'," and he agrees.

Wanting to preserve the demodog's body for science, Dustin has Steve clear out the Byers' fridge and place its body inside. A restless Mike demands that they distract the demodogs, worried that they will swarm Eleven and Hopper. Mike suggests they go to the tunnel system's graveyard and start a fire to lure them away, which Steve vehemently objects to.
"Steve I agree with Mike as much as I hate the idea of the kids being in danger, I can't leave El and Hopper on their own, they're like family to me" Y/n says sighing sadly.
"See listen to Y/n!" Mike says pointing at Y/n.
"No! I'm responsible for you little shits and that's final and Y/n I'm not letting you get hurt" Steve says rubbing his nose bridge frustrated.
Y/n scoffs turning away from Steve.
Steve sighs watching her.
"You know I'm not a kid, I can make my own decisions" Y/n says sighing frustrated.
"I'm not bringing you or anyone anywhere" Steve says looking at Y/n sternly.
"Whatever" Y/n says quietly walking over to the kids talking to Max.
Steve sighs shaking his head.

Billy arrives outside looking for Max.
"Shit Billy's here, he'll kill me, he'll kill us" Max says panicking.
"Max calm down okay, everything will be fine" Y/n says.
"Get down!" Steve yells to the kids as they hide away from the window.
Steve walks towards the door going on to the porch.
"Am I dreaming or is that you Harrington?" Billy asks.
"Yeah it's me, don't cream your pants" Steve says scoffing.
Billy scoffs as Steve walks closer to him.
They talk back and forth as Y/n grows more nervous deciding to go outside.
"Billy" Y/n says walking outside.
"Sweetheart is that you?" Billy asks smiling.
"Yeah it's me" Y/n says smiling.
"Why didn't you tell me my girl is here" Billy says smirking at Steve.
Steve rolls his eyes as Y/n hugs Billy tightly.
Billy kisses Y/n's forehead.
"I missed you" Y/n says smiling at Billy.
"Yeah? I missed you too" Billy says smirking down at her.
"Have you seen Max?" Billy asks Y/n calmly twirling a piece of her hair with his finger.
Y/n looks at Steve not knowing what to do.
"No she's not here, man we're you dropped as a kid, what don't you understand about that" Steve says to Billy.
Billy's smile drops as he glares at Steve.
Billy pushes Y/n back carefully and punches Steve sending his head back.
"Billy! Stop!" Y/n yells panicked.
Steve is hunched over in pain as Billy walks into the house slamming the door open looking for Max.
Y/n looks at Steve scared.
"Help the kids" Steve says to her.
She runs into the house seeing Billy lifting Lucas by his shirt collar against the wall.
"Billy! Leave him alone!" Max yells panicked.
Y/n tries to calm Billy down but nothing is working as Steve comes into the room punching Billy as they fight but Billy gets the upper hand pinning Steve to the floor punching him non stop.
Max grabs the needle Will's been using to put him asleep rushing over to Billy and sticking it into his neck.
"What the hell is this?" Billy asks standing up taking the needle out stumbling towards the group but stops falling to the floor laughing from being drugged.
Max grabs the nail bat.
"Leave me and my friends alone" Max says sternly to Billy.
Billy laughs.
Max swings the bat into the floor between his legs just missing his crotch.
"Say you'll leave me and my friends alone!" Max yells frustrated.
"Say it!" Max yells again.
"Fine, I'll leave you alone" Billy says groggy before passing out.
The group watches Max shocked.
"Come on we have to go" Y/n says pushing the kids forward towards where Steve is passed out and Max grabs Billy's car keys. Y/n looks back at Billy sadly knowing why he freaked out.
The group drag Steve to the car putting him in the backseat with Dustin, with Mike sitting on the floor in front of Dustin and Y/n in the other seat as Max drives with Lucas in the front seat.
"Why am I not driving?" Y/n asks confused.
"Because when Steve freaks out you'll be here holding him to calm him down" Dustin says.
"Okay just be careful Max" Y/n says nervously.
"You got it" Max says.
