Writer's POV
"If I startttt the engine of this car and none of you are sat inside, I will drive to church without you!" Orion's voice bellows throughout the household.
His patience has now run thin.
Without skipping a beat, he turns on his heel, facing away from the bottom of the stairs and starts walking towards the front door.
As if on cue, the various household doors start to open and slam, quickened footsteps making themselves known as they rush about.
Orion and Violets oldest children: Aaliyah and Donovan rush down the stairs, knowing their father's threat is far from empty.
Their mother Violet would have to either sneakily book them a taxi, or they would be taking the bus.
Either way they would be terribly late and their praise and worship leader would absolutely chew them out.
Now at the bottom of the stairs and speeding past their father, Donovan hops around one shoe on and the other he attempts to wear.
Aaliyah speeds past him, heels under her arm and a slice of toast in her mouth like an anime character that is late for their first day of school.
She nearly catches her tights on the end of her father's keys as she zooms past him her free hand holding down her eyelashes that she was still gluing down.
Orion walks a little bit slower to allow them to get ahead of him and he locks the door behind him as he steps out of the house.
As they scramble into the car, he notices his wife Violet leaning into the car, fastening their toddler Tobias into his car seat.
He ignores the urge to take advantage of that and he glides past her to sit in his seat.
He waits until his wife is sitting in her seat before he starts the car.
He makes sure they're all strapped in and his heart warms at the sight of his babies.
Particularly his youngest.
Tobias.
His miracle baby.
Not that he loved any of his other children less...
But Tobias was their miracle baby.
A constant reminder from God that if He says that something will be done, then that's the end of it.
Nobody can say otherwise or try to dispute it.
And with that, they all make their way to church.
Violet prays for them for a safe journey and before long, they are there.
Having finished getting ready in the car, Aaliyah and Donovan get out of the car first and make their way to the church to set up.
Orion gently unbuckles Tobias and carries him into the church to allow Violet to fix her dress and to avoid him slipping on the grass and soiling his clothes.
They all walk in and go to their respective places.
Aaliyah and Donavan go to the choir, taking their seats but not without a serious side eye from the choir leader.
Orion and Violet take their comfortable seating positions in the back-near-middle and they chatter to other members of the congregation, who still coo at the 4 year old toddler, Tobias.
Tobias is a very quiet 4 year old boy.
He only really likes talking to his parents and siblings.
On occasion, his cousins and aunties and uncles.
But he loves his, eager to spoil, grandparents as well.
Along side Kamari, son of Khyrie and Te'Ariya, his older cousin and Ajua, daughter of Jayden and Amulya, another older cousin,
His grandparents had them over almost every weekend and several times a week.
He enjoyed his grandfather's silent company while he played with his toys and grandpa read his book.
It gave him less anxiety.
Once his family found out that Tobias may be on the spectrum, nobody made a fuss or clamoured over the state of his brain or what others would later call his 'silent spells'.
They all just rubbed his head or gave him a kiss and told his parents they would love him regardless.
Not that the four year old particularly understood what the big deal was anyway.
He would start school soon.
His mother made sure that he, like the rest of his siblings, were ridiculously smart.
She patiently tutored him as soon as she realised he could understand things and comprehend.
She called him a baby genius and his siblings snuck him sweets before dinner just for being so smart.
As the service starts, Orion hands his youngest a sketch pad and a crayon and lets him get to work scribbling away and Violet listens attentively as per usual.
Tobias looks around in search of his big sister and big brother and he finds them right at the front, dozing off in front of their instruments, not for lack of interest, but purely from lack of sleep.
Orion holds his wife's hand and she returns his affections as per usual and the preacher talks boldly to the congregation.
Sundays were nice.
Tobias liked Sundays.
