"You know the diner up the road? well what are they like up there?" "Depends, some of them are a bit shifty, some are out and out villains, but I don't think any of them are capable of murder or anything like that, why?" Ma's demeanor changed completely, she seems to grow in her chair, her voice became softer and slightly posher, and she had a slight glint in her eyes,  "Would it help if I told you I've signed the official secrets act, I had to when I was helping Charles before, I was involved with some highly sensitive material, also I was in the special forces years ago, I've done my bit for my country, but that secret from that lot out there, to them I'm just Ma, so can you tell me now what's troubling you both?" "Well Georgie and Karan are meeting someone in the other diner, he has information but will only hand it over in person, and I'm not happy Ma, my guts telling me something isn't right, and I'm not usually wrong." "Do you know who they are meeting?" "No, Charles didn't say, but he's telling me not to get involved, but I can't help it Ma, I'm worried. I want to go in there and keep an eye on them, but Charles has said no, he's worried in case Aiden gets hurt, I wouldn't let anything happen to him though, he should know that." "You're an agent aren't you Freya?" "I was, until I met Aiden then I retired, why?" "Because if you went in there with Aiden, you'd be compromised, your training and instincts would be telling you one thing, but your heart would be telling you something else. I know you love Karan and Georgie, but if it came to the crunch and Aiden was threatened they'd be thrown to the wall, you wouldn't be able to help yourself, then if anything happened to them you'd be inconsolable, so I really think Charles is right to tell you not to get involved. I can help you through." "How ?" "Because a couple of my guys are going up there after, the chapter needs an enforcer to sort some trouble out, so they're going to sort it out, but I'll ask Ruddy to keep an eye on them, I'll warn them to pretend they don't know them, Ruddy's always on his toes, he's the only one who knows about my past, he was in special forces same as me." "That would be great Ma, knowing somebody who understands situations like that, could I sit outside in case I'm needed?" 

"No, you two are staying here till they come back, you're a sneaky one Freya, you look nothing like an agent, but you're a crafty one. You'd say you were heading for London and sneak close to the diner, wouldn't you?" " Yes I would, you can read my mind Ma, but we'll stay here, as you say when Aiden's about nobody else matters if he's in trouble, I'd lay down my life for him." Aiden hugged Freya really tight, "You don't think I'd let you, do you? I'd be the one protecting you, that's my job, looking after you." "I know you would darling, but sometimes when there's bullets flying around, unarmed civilians need protecting more." "But you're a civilian now." "But I'm not unarmed am I?" Freya reached down and got my gun out of my boot, "See, I've got a gun or two." Freya went into her bag and fetched the others out and her knives. "Do you always walk around so well armed?" Asked Ma. "No, I've only got my gun in my boot normally, but I thought I might need more, if I was going in after Karan and Georgie." "Can you use these proficiently Freya?" "Yes, I'm sniper standard with guns of any sort, and I can fetch down men or women with my knives, I was training with a crossbow before I came over here, but thats gone now." "Well if you wanted, there's plenty of places in the states where you could train, I even know people who own such places." "I haven't got time anymore, not now I'm touring with Aiden and the guys, I will be going to the Embassy's range to keep my eye in now and then, and Aiden wants to learn how to handle a gun, so I'll get him trained by professionals because he wants a gun and a pair of boots that he can hide it in, just like mine." "Did you ever bother with guns before meeting Freya or is it just a whim?" "Well I've messed around with air rifles, I've held a couple of guns but not fired them, but I've always wanted one for protection, when you're on the road you never know what's round the corner. I mean we're usually together, but different ones go to different places and so sometimes you're by yourself, so I'm pretty handy with my fists when I need to be, but I'd like the extra protection of a gun." "Well I suppose you're sensible about it, but you will be careful with one won't you Aiden? I'd hate anything to happen to you because you've got involved with guns."
